one of the first pieces of information you will be given in september will be your timetable it s very important because it not only tells you which lessons you will have that day but it also gives you a clue about the equipment you will need to pack in your bag the night before it also tells you what time each lesson starts and finishes and in which room they will take place if you haven t got a watch yet it might be a good idea to buy one to practise telling the time and getting to places on time the timetable will also let you know which teacher you will have for each subject instead of just one teacher you will be taught different subjects by different teachers the timetable will have the teacher s initials printed underneath the name of the lesson eg co mrs coldwell you will have 5 different subjects every day and some will be in special rooms for example science will usually take place in a laboratory wright robinson college has a two week timetable so you will have to remember whether you are on week one or week two f misc/faye transition/new intake 9-10/transition workbook 8

pretend that the example timetable next page is your own and see if you can answer these questions you may have to ask your form tutor for help 1 when do you spend time with your form 2 during week 1 on which days will you do p.e 3 imagine it is week 2 what equipment will you need to pack for thursday s lessons 4 which room will you have english in what colour zone is that room in check your map 5 when is your favourite lesson take time to look at the example timetable it will help you to get used to the way the timetable looks but don t forget this is just an example your timetable will have the same layout but the lessons will be different eg if this was your timetable you would have an art lesson during week 1 thursday period 3 with co mrs coldwell in ar3 which means art room 3 check your map it s in the blue zone on the first floor you would have another art lesson during week 2 tuesday period 1 f misc/faye transition/new intake 9-10/transition workbook 9

homework in year 7 you will get homework from each of your subject teachers this may be a bit more than you have been used to you will need to make sure you do your homework and hand it in on time there are homework clubs run by the academic mentor where you can go at lunchtime or after school if you want help or just somewhere quiet to work you will be given more information about this in septmber every time you are set homework write it in your planner so you don t forget to do it write down the subject what the homework is and when it needs to be handed in why is homework important it helps you learn to work on your own it reinforces what you have learned in the day and helps you develop your knowledge and understanding don t forget if you don t understand a piece of homework ask the teacher for help before it is due in f misc/faye transition/new intake 9-10/transition workbook 11

in primary school most of the equipment you need is kept in the classroom but at secondary school you will be expected to have your own pencils and pens and you will have to carry them around with you there are lots of other things you will need circle the equipment you will probably need and draw in any more you can think of it might seem like an awful lot to remember but try not to worry about it you can get your parents/carers to write a list of the things you will need for each day you could then tick each item off as you pack your bag make sure you pack your bag the night before in september you will be given your own locker in which to keep all your things safe you will need to pay £2.50 for your key and this will then be yours for the next 5 years f misc/faye transition/new intake 9-10/transition workbook 12
