3-week sessions summers i ii iii iv · credit load up to 6 credits approval from home institutions required to earn more than 3 credits per session · classes are held monday through friday students select courses from the regular florence schedule of courses offered during three week sessions · special highlight program the following highlight session is offered on a 3-week basis florence open city three-week sessions offered in all 3-week sessions · credit load up to 15 credits · classes are held monday through friday this program integrates students within the unique culture of local artisanal arts and craftsmanship in florence each 3-week session offers an academic hands-on experience 3 credits alongside florence s artisans in their botteghe and laboratories combined with italian languge study 3 credits the goal is to breathe a fresh contemporary air into the vibrant sphere of traditional crafts and trades in town the 3-week 6 credit program may be repeated in all session dates maximum credit load is 15 summer semester credits please note students wishing to obtain more than 15 credits must seek approval from their home institutions 4-week sessions summers v vi vii viii · credit load up to 7 credits · classes are held monday through friday students select courses from the regular florence schedule of 4-week session courses in addition to a week of field study and travel research · special highlight programs the following two highlight sessions are offered on a 4-week basis please note the programs will be confirmed 2 months prior to the program start date program participants are held responsible for all travel arrangements we highly recommend that participants await program confirmation prior to booking travel four-week photography course on the light of florence and tuscany offered in summer vi · credit load 6 credits · classes are held monday through friday some photography shot on-site in tuscany may be scheduled on weekends this program is designed to explore the unique light and its effect on the architecture and landscapes of tuscany combines one week of on-site shooting in tuscany and three weeks of photography coursework in florence four-week cultural introduction to italy offered in all 4-week sessions · credit load 3 credits please note any 3 credit courses from the general summer schedule may be combined to this program · classes are held sunday through saturday during the week of travel research and three times a week during coursework in florence this 4-week program begins with the 1-week cultural introduction to italy session a week of field study and travel research in tuscany students travel and research learning on location in destinations unique for their local cultures economies histories and societies the following three weeks are held in florence and continue the cultural learning with an emphasis on how italian culture is expressed in the tuscany the entire program is characterized by lectures visits to historic and contemporary sites tastes of local gastronomy expanded cultural horizons and contact with local culture will directly strengthen and challenge perspectives of italy 6-week sessions summers a b · credit load up to 10 credits · classes are held tues-wed-thurs students select from the regular florence schedule of 6-week courses tues-wed-thurs 3-week courses mon-fri or combine classes from the two a 1-week cultural introduction to italy 1 credit session may be added only at the beginning of the 6-week session 12-week summer semester · credit load up to 15 credits · classes are held tues-wed-thurs on a 6-week basis students select from the regular florence schedule of six week courses tues-wed-thurs three week courses mon-fri or combine classes from the two a 1-week cultural introduction to italy 1 credit may be added only at the beginning of the summer semester 13-week program special graduate program 9-week graduate apprenticeship in hospitality offered in two 9-week sessions may 12 to july 13 or june 2 to august 3 · credit load 12 credits · classes are held monday through friday apprenticeship hours are also held over the weekend this graduate level apprenticeship program prepares students for supervisory and management positions in hospitality students choose from four different concentrations all take place at ganzo non-profit cultural assocation and restaurant-art gallery operated by palazzi students open to culinary or hospitality graduates.
