my background my name is shari mohan and i am 27 years old i am currently teaching as a kindergarten teacher at a new york city public school in queens i absolutely love my job and career choice as a child i wanted to become a teacher i graduated from queens college as a biology and anthropology major i can honestly reveal that i did not enjoy my major very much and did not want to be unhappy with a career in those fields for the rest of my life from my experience as much as i have learned from it i can look back and say we live and learn i also learned to listen to my heart and do what makes me happy the result currently is that i believe i found my calling my first experience in the education field was at an after school program this job was very natural to me in that i did not feel as if i was working i looked forward to going to work there is no other career i would see myself in as i gained more experience i grew and learned from others i apply what i learn every day to enhance my teaching skills it s a wonderful gift to teach and give to others and watch your students do the same my greatest reward is to see a child progress in even the smallest manner i love to see growth and progress from a child i take pride in knowing i have helped this child i am currently attending touro college to complete my master s degree in general education special education i have also achieved a 4.0 gpa in over 20 credits of the program i am also so thankful and blessed to have a wonderful family always there for support they have also been in my life to support any decision i have made in the end they want to see me happy and healthy in my career choice they couldn t have been more proud of me to have their daughter become a teacher my parents have raised my sister and i to be very career driven and i always say that i am very blessed i am also newly engaged to my fiancé and i cannot wait to start planning for my wedding in 2014 in a sense i am so anxious and pleased to have my career and my personal life grow during this time in my life this is an extremely joyous time to see everything come together and fall into place in my life i am so blessed to have a wonderful family friends and fiancé and have made a wonderful career choice i have learned so much and continue to learn the most important lesson i ve learned is to follow your heart and passion and always make sure to be happy in the end back to table of contents smohan my final project page 10

cst swd quiz the cst swd quiz was developed by professor stein of touro college students are asked to take this quiz at the end of their course it is designed to help students with the nystce multi-subject students with disabilities exam the exam consists of 6 questions the method of the cst swd test is designed to review practice questions however what is so unique about the questions is that it provides links and videos to help the individual become educated of that particular topic therefore the individual becomes educated if he/she is unsure of an answer the student can take the test multiple times and each time the question changes click on the picture below to go to the website and take the quiz best of luck i took the test and received 100 out of 100 students are able to print their certificate at the end of the exam take a look at my certificate below back to table of contents smohan my final project page 11

common core standard the common core standards provides high quality education for the young people of today it provides a strong foundation for children in every grade from kindergarten until the child is about to enter college it gives the teacher a guideline on what skills to enhance their lesson to help our students it does not tell the teachers how to teach it states what is expected of each student in every grade as a teacher i follow the common core standard when lesson planning and teaching i have also noticed most of the concepts taught in one grade is taught in the following grades however it is building on the knowledge foundation the children have been exposed to previously parents students and teachers can use the common core to help achieve academic success for their school and students having parents students and teachers on the same team in this plan of action the student will acquire appropriate skills and tools every year until they are ready for college and be able to succeed and ultimately in the workforce and in life click on my website for more information on the common core standards the common core standards are aligned with college and work expectations are clear understandable and consistent include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards are informed by top-performing countries so all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society are evidence-based back to table of contents smohan my final project page 13
