what s in the newsletter this week melodys new world fundraiser parkland pride puzzler the hub news centre wilderness area parkland stars parkland cross-country inter-schools cross-country dear parents it is certainly an interesting time in education the move to rip the heart of intermediate schools took everyone by surprise last week hopefully over the next few weeks some common sense will prevail the ability to provide specialist teachers at the intermediate level is a real benefit to students at this age the exact impact of larger class sizes on our school is actually unknown at this stage any increase in class numbers would not be welcomed by parkland staff as this will impact on teaching programmes and the support we can provide to individual students i am yet to receive any parent feedback on this issue but i can t imagine parents wanting larger classes either we have no argument with having high quality teachers in our schools or having a set of national standards there is an issue however with the collection of `national standard data in its current form as the information is so inconsistent across the country it is in fact unusable to schools or parents on our staffing front for next term we welcome mr patrick hurly to room 13 as the class teacher patrick and his family are returning to palmerston north from kapiti where he currently teaches mrs tasha cravino will takeover in room 9 mid way through the term when mrs higson leaves to have her baby we are yet to find a teacher to begin our third new entrant room rm 1 this position is about to be advertised peter barnett principal

www.parkland.school.nz have you checked out the news centre on the hub wilderness area tristan and vaka planting new natives in the wilderness area our pathway is now 90 complete thanks to the room 14 workers mr heatley who have spread the lime many thanks to all those involved we have recently received donations of native plants from brightwater home mcphersons nursery and mrs andrews which are adding to the wilderness area.

cross country year 5 6 girls 1st place molly t-b 2nd place ashleigh s 3rd place shania b year 5 6 boys 1st place thomas w 2nd place tyler c 3rd place jake e inter school cross country 2012 a team of 20 enthusiastic runners represented parkland school at the inter school event held at massey on tuesday a few cow pats and some hills make quite a difference for runners but all our teams were consistent performers and came home justifiably pleased with their efforts the top runner of the day was molly taylor-brock who gained 4th place out of approx 90 year 5 runners.
