kia ora koutou i hope you all had a relaxing break over the long weekend it is always nice to have an extra day to catch up this wednesday evening our special parent event is a maths evening maths has changed since parents were at school and often feel that they can t help at home because they are doing it wrong if you would like an overview of how maths is taught and the stages that children go through to learn different aspects of maths come along at 7pm tomorrow night we will also give you some ideas of some games that you can play to practice basic facts and other core skills the meeting is in the multipurpose space at 7pm mr trotter is hosting this event welcome welcome to cameron who started in sheppard last week playground update last week i put an application in to a local charitable fund for a contribution towards our playground we should hear back from this group within the next few weeks keep your fingers crossed wacky pj day a reminder that on wednesday 13 june we will host a pj day which will cost a gold coin donation children will be consulted on what they would like the money to go towards national standards reporting in week 2 of term 3 each child with the exception of recent new entrant children will receive the first written national standards report for the year this report has been slightly modified from your feedback last year however still has the graphs that you loved and most of the same information we have not scheduled parent meetings to coincide with these reports as parents felt last year that they were easy enough to understand however if you would like to discuss the content of the reports you are welcome to book a meeting with your child s guardian these appointments will be made directly with the teacher rather than having a digital booking sheet children in ngata 1 will receive their reports in week 9 of this term so that parents have the opportunity to meet with miss clark before she goes on leave at the end of term 3 parents will be invited to student led conferences where your children will explain their learning to you there will be more information about this closer to the time netball reminder if your child is in one of the top two teams a $20 bond needs to be paid before we issue the new uniforms at this stage the complete set is still not here however we will let you know when it arrives scholastic book club the scholastic brochures were sent home last week if you would like to order from them please have your order in by this friday 8th june if you wish to order something as a present please make a note on the order and we let you know when the order arrives road patrol a big thank you to the parents who are helping with road patrol each morning and afternoon we are very grateful for your help and could not manage the roads without you we do need one more person to cover the monday afternoon patrol it is only from 2:30 2:45pm and we would appreciate it if someone could fill that gap.

school lunches just a reminder that you are able to order lunch from school every thursday lunches will be supplied by kev s place every thursday just write your order name room on an envelope with the correct money in the envelope and pop it into the purple lunch box in the office on thursday mornings the best decorated envelope will receive a $5 lunch voucher if you do not have the correct change you can place your order directly with kev s place on thursday mornings a copy of the lunch menu is attached to the newsletter and copies are available in the office frogss or friends of golden sands school is our school s equivalent to a pta thankfully it is so much less formal which means anyone is very welcome to come along to meetings or working bees when your time and energy permits when the school started in 2011 just about every parent was a frogss because there were only about 50 of you now that our school roll is expanding we need to ensure that everyone is able to tap into the frogss grapevine so we have decided to set up representatives for each learning community each learning community will have two people who are able to be at school sometime during the week these people will not always have the answers but will certainly be able to ask on your behalf or send you off in the right direction so if you have any questions suggestions or extra time on your hands they would love to hear from you look for their smiling faces in your child s learning community new enrolments we are starting to get a lot of enquiries for later in the year we are now taking enrolments for all of 2012 if you have a child that will start with us this year please complete your enrolment and bring it in to the office if you know anyone who is thinking of bringing their children to us can you please encourage them to come in for a tour or a chat or bring their enrolment form in to the office i am currently working on our new entrant staffing for the rest of the year and need to be able to plan the number of teachers we will need thank you for your support kids can ride in the last week our senior students have been involved in the kids can ride programme if you came to our celebration of learning assembly on friday afternoon you will have seen a digital show of this please encourage your children to use the skills that they have learnt at all times when on a bicycle these programmes are a fantastic base to our children s learning however we need to keep reminding them to use the skills so that they don t forget them entertainment books the 2011/12 book expired last week get your new book with 420 great offers to choose from plus accommodation theme parks retail shopping it features valuable 25 to 50 off and 2 for 1 offers on many of the area s best restaurants cafes hotel accommodation attractions and family activities be quick only a few left have a great week everyone kind regards principal melanie taylor
