cheyenne knight paw prints reporter photo by cheyenne knight 71 of students report bullying as a on-going problem suicide is one of the leading causes of death among kids there are about 2.7 milling kids bullied each year there are about 282,000 kids bullied a month all information from bullyingstatistics.org one day in math class a few kids were talking about bullying amongst their friends they were talking about a kid in their lunch period who was constantly being made fun of earlier in lunch all the girls had witnessed this kid being picked on by a group of guys they started talking about how it was affecting him feeling bad for him they talked about ways they could help him eventually the conversation steered towards the girls own experiences with bulling each girl took turns describing how they had been bullied their teacher who had been listing to their entire conversation promptly walked over to talk to the girls she clearly stated that bulling is no longer a problem their school and told them they should not worry about it according to many teachers at quakertown school district bulling is no longer an issue see bullying p 2

2 paw prints may 2012 bullying signs must be noticed comes more popular and as online communities become more prevalent bullying is popping up in cyber space as bullying moves towards the internet it becomes harder and harder for adults to notice and control administrators don t spend their time paging through each student s social networking sites so how are they supposed to know when a student is being bullied online the answer is they are not with that said there are steps they can take to help the problem there are specific behaviors of a person who has reached the point of suicide if teachers were taught these behaviors they would be able to notice if a student is this way quakertown high school sophomore hayley lott said teachers should get a class on bullying and the signs of bullying to make school a better place to learn maybe if they had this class the amount of suicides caused by bullying among teens would decrease said lott the schools need to get more involved with bullying even if it is as simple as starting a support group for bullied kids in their school something needs to be done bullying is not going away it is just being done in secret were teachers cannot see it this is more dangerous than traditional bullying it is a silent killer no one knows about the bullying until it pushes a person over the edge and by then it is too late there are easy steps that can be taken to help the kids being bullied so why aren t the school doing this why instead are they turning their backs on bullying no matter how many times they say bullying is not a problem anymore it will still be there in the background eating away at the bullied and pushing kids to the edge schools around the nation are telling parents and kids that bulling is no longer a problem but how can it no longer be a problem according to bullyingstatistics.org there are about 160,000 children who miss school a day out of fear of being bullied that s a pretty big number of kids for a problem that no longer exists teachers and administrators have seen a decrease in bullying throughout the school however just because they do not see the problem does not mean the problem does not exist tenth grader nicolle kiem confirms teachers should take bullying more seriously because it does happen an anonymous source shared a story of a qchs student who suffered from bullying they reported that their friend would skip school a lot to avoid the bullies this made her fall behind in her work after everything was over this girl told a friend she had seriously considered suicide fortunately for this girl a classmate noticed her depression and got help before she could attempt it according to themommypsychologist.com 4,400 american teenagers a year commit suicide those being bullied are more likely to be among these kids suicide is the leading cause of death among kids according to bullyingstatistics.org this raises an important question how do these kids get this way without a single soul noticing one problem is how bullying occurs nowadays bullyingstatistics.org reports as the internet be graphics by cheyenne knight/clip art knight s graphic shows the need to stop bullying left
