2 1 kt newsletter may 1 2012 volume 1 issue 8 home stretch we are down to the last few weeks of kindergarten there is a lot of talk in kt about how to be responsible how to listen well and in general becoming ready for grade 1 i am sure that everyone is ready april was a busy month to recap we returned from our holiday and jumped right into our sharing the planet unit the unit was successful in the fact that the children have begun to have a solid understanding what it means to reduce waste and reuse things we have a wonderful gallery of repurposed items and toys outside of our classroom who knew so much could be done with garbage we also had pajama day and visited the grade 5 exhibition we loved seeing our buddies work kt was also very helpful with one of the groups in researching how children use ipads to learn that group wrote a thank you note to the kt kids we head into may with many more exciting events and it will soon be time to say goodbye to kindergarten important dates may 5 ­ aisg 30th anniversary gala may 7 library books due may 11 ­ next bear day may 25 ­ talent show at 6:30 in mpr bear day

kt newsletter page 2 beach day we have been told that next wednesday may 9th ersha island will not have power from about 8am to 5pm mr macphie has kindly declared it beach day as we all know the weather gets hotter and hotter throughout the day so a couple of things that your child may want to bring on that day wear light breathable `beachy clothing that day sunscreen a hat ­ it might be very sunny outside a change of clothes we may get to use the pre school water table or because the kids will be sweaty a water bottle and remind them the importance of drinking throughout the day a hand-held fan a lunch that does not need heating eurest will provide sandwiches for those that are having a school lunch any toys that would normally be taken to the beach to enjoy it will be a super hot day so lets try and make it fun no swimwear please ixl math at home aisg has signed up for a web site called ixl which we can use in our classroom ixl is a comprehensive math practice site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills all of which are aligned to grade level standards one of the best things about ixl is that your child can access it from home in addition to making math practice exciting ixl is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace the website is adaptive and will adjust to your child s demonstrated ability level the site also saves all of your child s results so you can monitor your child s progress anytime by clicking on the reports tab i hope you ll encourage your son or daughter to use ixl at home you may have a look at the web site now at http www.ixl.com next week i will send home your child s user name and password.
