stagecraft/production prerequisite none required 9-10-11-12 this is a comprehensive course in the art of stagecraft and theatre arts production each student will receive training and exposure in all aspects of theatre behind the scenes students will design plan construct evaluate and record in the areas of carpentry lighting sound costuming make-up and properties students will keep a portfolio in which they will record their planning progress and reflection on each project once the students have a cursory knowledge of the many arts of stagecraft they will choose two areas for in-depth study and work in relation to an actual production during the second semester two new in-depth projects will give each student a wide range of exposure each preliminary unit will be guided by the instructor giving each student a chance to try their hand at the skill evaluation of each technique will be oral by instructor and class theatre arts 2 10-11-12 prerequisite successful completion of theatre arts 1 with a grade of b or better or teacher recommendation this course is designed to further enhance the theatre arts skills of the students who were successful in theatre arts 1 and expose students to classical and contemporary drama emphasis will be placed on major projects in the areas of improvisation monologues scene development and complete productions a process called wip work in progress will help students explore the depths of realistic characterization demanded by modern theatre this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts advanced theatre arts 11-12 prerequisite successful completion of theatre arts 2 and audition with instructor this course is designed to provide drama students with a forum to challenge and perform their advanced skills in theatre arts most students at this level will be involved in production work and competitive drama any advanced theatre arts work will include monologue and scene work in both the contemporary and classical arenas this class will also incorporate a literature component and exploration of drama theory and theorist this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts 5

rop theatre production 2 period class 11-12 prerequisite successful completion of theatre arts 1 with a grade of c or better or teacher recommendation in rop theatre production students will learn about all aspects of theater production and will focus on one or two areas of interest specific areas include stagecraft lighting costumes sound and design all areas will focus on new technology students will crew for shows and some will be employed as technicians for outside events in our venue this course gives students practical skills training art 1 prerequisite none required 9-10-11-12 this one-year course has been developed to introduce students to the basic ideas and skills of fine art every unit of study will include discussion and study of relevant historical information artists cultural backgrounds styles philosophies and historical events relating to the unit at hand craftsmanship will be heavily stressed and practiced as well as an emphasis on the importance of presentation critical art analysis of other artists work as well as their own will be practiced in class and on tests to help students artistic perception develop students will begin to understand what entails good composition and how to better use their information to enhance further personal work the course will include units on painting and painting styles drawing composition three-dimensional design photography color theory collage and animation students will be evaluated on their daily efforts class projects tests extra credit discussion and critiquing participation submission of art into fine arts shows school display cabinets and involvement and writings on artistic events they have attended during the year outside of the contained classroom this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts 6

art 2 10-11-12 prerequisite successful completion of art 1 or teacher recommendation based on student s art background this one-year course has been designed to continue on with more advanced drawing and painting techniques human anatomy mature illustrative composition and color manipulation extending a smooth transition from art 1 class knowledge this class will explore these art elements and principles as it is applied to two and threedimensional design assignments this class will also be working with beginning and intermediate sculpture design in the areas of ceramics jewelry design conceptual art and world folk arts an emphasis will be placed on illustrative composition originality extensive variety of media cultural awareness development of high quality craftsmanship and personal interpretation each unit will start with historical background and philosophies of the particular art style or the artist that is to be studied students will continue to improve their analytical and critical thinking skills laying solid groundwork for conscience aesthetic valuing judgments students will be keeping a sketchbook and begin mounting matting and photographing their work for a professional portfolio that can be used for ap art studio or future job application requirements this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts art 3 11-12 prerequisite successful completion of art 1 and art 2 with a grade of b or better art 3 is designed for the art student who is serious about reaching for their potential in the visual arts this course encourages creative as well as systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues revolving around the principles of design there is an emphasis on making art as an ongoing process involving the student in informed and critical decision-making the student works from direct observation while developing original thinking they make a commitment to an extended personal exploration of voice and medium in their work the student engages in written reports and oral presentations studio art prerequisite successful completion of art 2 or teacher recommendation 11-12 this is a course for the serious art student who wishes to progress on to a.p studio art studio art students will begin work on a portfolio that will be submitted to the advanced placement college board upon completion of their 4th year as an art student in ap studio art in studio art students begin their development of the quality and breadth sections of the portfolio students who enroll in this course and go on to ap studio art will be expected to produce a minimum of 50 works of art in a variety of media techniques and subject matter under the guidance of the 7

concert choir prerequisite none required 9-10-11-12 concert choir is a select choir which performs at major school functions and other concert sites the choir focuses on traditional styles of choral music each student will learn basic music theory basic singing techniques and common performance knowledge this choir may participate in festivals and competitions students who join this ensemble will be expected to take part in concerts and special rehearsals which may be necessary this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts chamber singers prerequisite audition 9-10-11-12 chamber singers is a highly specialized group dedicated to the art of fine choral music this group is centered around mastering advanced vocal techniques as well as performance of advanced musical styles the ensemble performs in festivals and competitions numerous community and school performances require additional time commitment from members of this active group membership is limited this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts beginning percussion prerequisite none required 9-10-11-12 beginning percussion will provide new musicians with the opportunity to practice and perform musical pieces written specifically for beginning percussion ensembles students are taught the fundamentals of music performance including posture dynamics tempo and balance performances include in-class testing recording and an end-of-the-year concert this is a uc approved course for visual and performing arts 9
