volume 6 may 13 2010 dear students parents and caregivers our winter sports teams are now in full swing again i would like to extend a thank you to all the mothers fathers brothers sisters uncles aunties teachers and friends of family who are assisting with our many sports team your assistance is greatly appreciated preparations for the nzct aims games are now underway in 2010 students from tauranga intermediate will represent the school in 14 sports the aims games sports for 2010 are badminton basketball cross country football golf hockey netball rugby sevens tennis squash waterpolo multisport swimming and gym sport the games are held from sunday 5 to friday 10 september in 2009 there were over 3000 students from over 85 schools it is important that students listen to the daily notices and attend meetings that are called if they wish to be involved well done to mr hampton and our poverty bay bay of plenty canoe challenge team their win on the friday 7 may is the 5th successive win in this competition for tauranga intermediate and a first for mr hampton as the coach i would also like to congratulate the following boys who have been selected for the tauranga west tai mitchell team for 2010 kyle bosselmann luke robinson harris williams jacob allum matthew godfrey-stables curtis epapara rhys hamilton jacob norris finn russell tyler bidois steven masters jack delaney moshea mankelow jayde malcom-heke kauri weti and israel turner these boys will contest the bay of plenty primary school rugby tournament in murupara in the july school holidays gareth scholes deputy principal

nzct aims games although the nzct aims games are still 4 months away we are eager to get our students in top condition and well drilled before the tournament training squads will get underway this term and trials will take place therefore it is imperative that students listen to notices and ask questions 14 sporting codes make up the 2010 aims games badminton basketball cross country football golf gymsports hockey multisport netball squash swimming tennis and waterpolo this year rubgy sevens is a new sport which is included registrations for all team and individual sports closes friday 21 may check out the new website at www.nzaimsgames.co.nz waimarino kayak challenge on friday 7 may i was part of a team of 8 tauranga intermediate students who competed in kayaking events at waimarino against several other intermediates ariana moffatt rm 19 courtney williams rm 42 anna o loughlin rm 19 payton sylvester rm 19 luke robinson rm 19 daniel munro rm 42 and fergus kirk rm 7 and the reserve was olivia thomas rm 41 each of us had to do 4 different events the long distance race sprint race slalom and rescue it was an awesome day especially when we took out the top school again ariana moffat won the girls 2010 winning kayak team long distance race and daniel munro won the boys long distance and slalom races we also won the girls and boys rescue event daniel won the golden paddle it was a great experience and heaps of fun courtney williams rm 42 pb/bop intermediate indoor bowls competition the pb/bop intermediate schools indoor bowls tournament was held at the greerton community hall on thursday 6 may players from kawerau whakatane te puke otumoetai mount ilminster kaitao and of course tauranga intermediates were competing the members of the rsa indoor bowls club were instrumental in the smooth running of this tournament and volunteered their time to assist on each of the mats giving pointers to the teams and scoring a special thanks needs to go to bill west who helped to coach our students and who organised the day s play 2

overall results were as follows year 7 1st kawerau 2nd mount maunganui 3rd ilminster year 8 1st whakatane 2nd ilminster 3rd kawerau in the year 8 division our tauranga 1 team comprising celine bixley rm 1 henri dellaway rm 1 rosemary barker rm 16 and kelly tucker sands rm 26 finished 4th after going into the final round with 3 wins under their belts the other two tauranga teams found the competition very tough on the day tui glen equestrian tui glen is a camp for `horsey people like me hi i m izzy on 27 april kari wratten-lowe rm 15 went to the tui glen interschool equestrian competition it was all about jumping there were three events the first was a 50cm showjumping course which means that the jumps are colourful and can fall down the second event was cross country which was 5 cm high and are made of either wood tyres or bricks which can t fall down then the last but not least was another showjumping except it was 60cm and i did the joker but twiggy my horse refused it the first time it was 75cm neither kari or i won any ribbons but that didn t matter because we had so much fun even though we had blisters sore legs and briuses it was so much fun that we didn t care the trip home was two and a half hours long and our horses were tired from six hours of being pushed to the limit by their riders my pony twiggy is a 17 year old arab/english riding pony but she is so fizzy you could mistake her for a 2 year old kari s horse was named dibby special thanks to kari s mum who transported and supervised us on the day izzy panettiere rm 32 if you would like to receive a copy of this newsletter electronically via email please contact sabrina jackson at sabrinaj@tauranga-int.school.nz to be included on a mailing list 3

families required sunday 5 september friday 10 september 2010 nzct aims games billets from south island we have been approached again from 2 christchurch intermediate schools to host sporting students who are competing in the nzct aims games we have helped out all 3 schools in the past and wish to continue assisting them as it is hugely expensive for them to travel to this national sporting event billeting would be from sunday 5th september friday 10th september once at school their team would make their own travel arrangements for the day with team mini-vans billets billets billets christchurch south intermediate are sending up their netball team of 10 girls and a team of football boys approx 15 chisnalwood intermediate have approx 30 students not sure yet what sports that are competing in who also require hosting so if you re up for a new experience that week where you ll meet and get to know students from the south island can provide a bed meals and a safe family home for the students get them to school each day where they will make their own travel arrangements then we would love to hear from you please return to the sports o!ce yes i can take 1/2 girl/s/boy/s from christchurch south intermediate yes i can take 1/2 billet/s from chisnallwood intermediate boy/girl please circle students name room address phone number email address signed aims clothing make your orders early so you don t miss out orders and money to sports office thanks 9
