tamarereti the warrior it all started with tamarereti the warrior in those days they were trapped in darkness tamarereti was hungry so he looked in his storage supply but his food supplies were low so he decided to go fishing in his waka on lake taupo he soon caught three fish but then he fell asleep soon the wind picked up when he was asleep and his waka drifted all the way to the other side of the lake when woke up he was very hungry so he made a fire when he was eating his fishing he remembered that the taniwha might eat him the taniwha is a fearsome creature that will eat anything that comes near them then he caught a glimpse of shining pebbles and he had an idea soon he was in his waka in the water and he threw the pebbles up in the night sky somehow the pebbles stayed in the night sky and they were still shining when he got home he realised that he did something bad to ranginui the sky father but ranginui said you have not done anything bad in fact you made the sky look beautiful can i take your waka for a memory of you now the waka is the milky way in the night sky by caitlyn .

the legend of how the stars got in the sky once upon a time years and years ago the night sky had no stars in that time there was a famous warrior called tamarereti a village where he lived was in danger every night the taniwha would come out and eat people tamarereti woke up and checked his food supply he realized that he was low so he went in his waka and sailed out he caught three fish but the wind died out so he knew that he could not get back safely so he decided to sleep when he woke up he had drifted to the other side of the lake it was getting dark so he chose to cook his fish on the side of the lake there were glistening pebbles this gave tamarereti an idea he fit as many of the pebbles as he could and and threw them up into the sky that had scared away the taniwha the pebbles are the stars he had a visitor waiting to see him it was rangnui tamarereti knew that he would be in trouble for he put lights in the perfectly dark sky but ranginui said nothing instead he thanked him he asked if he could cast his waka in the night sky and tamarereti said yes you can still see the waka you can tell by the three stars shaped as an arrow and the two stars that represent the line this is the anchor on the waka by lachlan

how the stars came to be one day a warrior called tamarereti awoke to find his food storage was low as he was hungry he went to lake taupo and fished in his waka shortly after dawn he caught 3 fish the wind had died so he had no way back he slept he awoke just before sunset tamarereti was scared in those days the taniwha was around and ate people at night by the lake but it was scared of light he decided that first things first so he made a fire and cooked his fish the fire light made the pebbles shine tamarereti had an idea he filled his waka with the glistening pebbles and rowed casting the pebbles as he went they hang there till this day the pebbles became the stars and their light frightened the taniwha away after a long day rowing tamarereti slept he awoke to find ranginui the sky father tamarereti ready himself for serve punishment because he had filled ranginui s black night sky but instead tamarereti was reward by having his waka cast into the heavens to become the star cluster matariki by jack

once upon a time there was a warrior called tamarereti one morning he was hungry he looked in his food storage but there was hardly any food left so he took his waka and went fishing on lake taupo after he caught three nice fat juicy fish but he realised that the wind had died down it was only mid day so he decided he would have a nap in the bottom of is waka when he awoke it was nearly dark he realised that he had drifted to the other side of the lake while he was asleep he got scared because at night the taniwha come out of the lake and eat people but he did what was best and made a fire and cooked his fish because he was really hungry he looked around there just in the shallows of the water were some glowing rocks he had great idea he filled his waka with as many rocks as he could he got in his boat and paddled further into the lake then he threw the stones up into the sky and the sky lighted up and frightened the taniwha away he paddled all the way home he saw ranginui was there waiting for him tamarereti prepared himself for what could only be big trouble because had just ruined the perfectly black sky but he was wrong when he got to ranginui he did nothing instead he thanked tamarereti thank you you have made the land more safer and the sky more beautiful thank you he said may i cast your waka up in the skies so we can all remember you sure he said the waka up in the sky is what we call today the milky way by emma

the saviour of the night sky by james one day tamarereti a great warrior came back to his hut he felt very hungry so he opened his food cupboard but he had no food so he set off on a fishing trip out on lake taupo in his waka he caught three big fat juicy fish tamrereti was pleased so he had a nap suddenly he awoke to the sound of waves against his waka the wind blew his waka all the way to the other side of lake taupo it was dark so tamarereti decided he should go and cook his fish once the sun went down all the pebbles around tamarereti started to glow very brightly almost immediately he had a mind blowing idea soon he set off back to his village tamarereti chucked the glowing pebbles into the night sky tamarereti slept all the way back to his village in his waka as soon as he woke up he was face to face with ranganui tamarereti thought he was in deep trouble for bringing light to the peaceful night sky ranganui just smiled at tamarereti and said thank you for lighting up the sky and for saving all the tribes from the taniwha .ranganui just said one more thing may i place your waka in the night sky to symbolise what tamarereti did the waka is now known as the milky way

once upon a time there was a warrior called tamarereti he went to breakfast but he was low on food so he went fishing and he caught three big and very fat jack fish but when he finished the wind had died and he could not get home so he lay down and went to sleep when he was asleep the had picked up he got dragged to the other side of the lake so he made a fire and when he was cooking the fish he saw something strange.he saw the pebbles glowing in the fire light so he put as much as he could fit in his waka and paddled out to where the sky meets the sea he threw the pebbles in to the sky that stared to gleam and glow but then he thought if he this he would upset ranginui would kill tamarereiti but he was proud of him because he had brightened up the whole and he had scarred away the taniwhas ranginui so proud he would like to place the waka in the stars so the people would remember.

the story one day there was a man called tamrereti he went fishing and he caught 3 fish and the wind is gone down he went to sleep in the waka and woke up on the other side of the lake he made a fire he cooked his fish he saw lots of pebbles and he collected as much of the pebbles that he could he pushed his waka into the water and he threw as much pebbles into the sky he got home and went to sleep the next morning he woke up and ranginui knocked on the door he thought he was in trouble but he was not ranginui said thank you by nathan

tamarereti once upon a time tamarereti the warrior just woke up from his sleep he was so hungry so he went to cheek his food storage he was very low so he went out on his wake he cot there fish then the wind had gone his e down so he fall asleep in the bottom fall asleep in the bottom of his waka when he woke up he was on the other side of the river he was so hungry so he decided to do important things first so he cooked his dinner on the fire then he ser something it was some stones so he landed them in to his wake and he palled out in the river and he and he chuck them out in the sky and they stuck to the sky and the taniwha so all of the people can go out at night then he went home and full asleep the next day when he up he saw the god of the sky and he said that he wants to put his wake in the sky to remember him when he is gone by harrison m

by harrison w once upon a time there was a land the land was in darkness and all the people were in danger from the taniwha the taniwha were dangerous and would come out at night to feast on the people of the land at that time there lived the great warrior tamarereti one day tamarereti woke up from a big sleep he was also very hungry so he went to see his food storage but it was very low so he went to fish at lake taupo he caught three big fish then he decided to have a nap in his waka that was on the lake while he was asleep the wind pushed his waka to the other side of the lake when he woke up he realised where he was he then started to worry because it was getting dark and soon the taniwha would come to get him so he decided to eat his fish for now when he was done he really started to worry because it was really dark just then he saw pebbles on the lake floating and shining in the firelight so tamarereti loaded his waka with as many of the pebbles as he could and hung them in the sky as he paddled to the other side of the lake where his house was then he went to bed and slept for ages when he woke up he was expecting to get punished by rangi the sky father but instead rangi said thank you tamarereti you have saved the land and the people from the taniwha

this is a tainui legend about a great warrior tamarereti and how he is believed to have casted stars into the sky this legend was made by the iwi of the waikato district this legend was set in the area we now call lake taupo tamarereti a great warrior was looking for food in his supplies one day they were very low so he decided to go and catch some fish in the time of tamarereti they were trapped in darkness at night and the fearsome taniwha would eat anything that came near them after nightfall by the time tamarereti caught three decent sized fish the wind had died down he was stuck tamarereti decided to take a nap at the bottom of his waka since it was only mid-morning as tamarereti slept the wind picked up and drove off course he suddenly woke up and he was on the other side of the lake now he was well away from home so he decided that there was no point in trying to get home he would just have to let the taniwha gobble him up tamarereti soon got hungry so he cooked his fish to eat as he ate his he watched the fire something caught his eye it was some small shiny pebbles an idea struck tamarereti suddenly he put as much of the shiny pebbles in his waka and sailed to the other side of the lake towards the river that connects to the sky where the rain is made whilst rowing he cast the pebbles into the sky to make stars the taniwha fled from the light and from existence for ever in the morning tamarereti had an unexpected visitor ranginui the sky father tamarereti expected to be in trouble because he had ruined ranginui stark black sky but instead ranginui said thank you for making the night sky more beautiful and making the world safer during nightfall in your honour will you let me cast your waka in the sky tamarereti agreed the waka is to be said to have been cast next to the star cluster that we refer to as the milky way translations iwi tribes ranginui sky father tamarereti a great warrior taniwha an awful eel like creature that lived in water and ate anything that annoyed them by tyla

tamarereti one day tamarereti woke up and he was hungry so he went to his supplies he was running low on supplies so he went fishing and he caught three fish the wind had dropped so he went to sleep in till the wind had come back the wind did come back it pushed the waka to the other side of the lake when the waka hit the land tamarereti woke up he found himself on the other side of the lake he was thinking what to do next he started a fire then he prepared the fish so he could eat them while he was eating he wondered about the taniwha he knew it would eat him he noticed something was happening around him he noticed there were lots of pebbles shining in the light from the fire then tamarereti had an idea he collected as pebbles as he could get he put them in the pebbles in his waka and rode out to the middle of the lake to the place where the water went into the sky to make rain he threw the pebbles into e sky were they hang in the sky still shining like little stars in the sky when he made it to the other side of the lake he went to sleep in his waka he slept to the next day afternoon when he woke up he noticed he had a visitor it was ranginui tamarereti not when was in trouble he had made it from dark to light to his surprise he said thank you tamarereti for scaring away the taniwha and for making the sky more beautiful by ryan

the warrior once there was a warrior tamarereti there was this monster and everyone in the little town were scared of it taniwhas was the monster of the seas it was night and everyone went inside their houses because if you were outside at night you would get eaten by the big scary monster of the sea taniwha in the morning tamarereti looked in his cupboards and realised that he didn t have much food so he went out to fish on lake taupo he was fishing in a waka he caught three big juicy fish all of a sudden he realised that the wind had stopped blowing he decided to have a sleep when he woke up he was a long way from home he was on the other side of the lake he was really scared because it was really getting dark he decided to light a fire when he had lit it he saw some pebbles shining in the firelight tamarereti picked heaps and heaps up and put them in his waka his plan was to throw them up in the sky so he got in the boat and started to move he through them up into the sky and it stopped the taniwha from coming he never came again the next day ranginui the sky father came to say thank you very much for saving us can i put your waka in the sky so everyone remembers you sure said tamarereti even now you can still see the waka and tamarereti s pebbles shining in the night sky scaring away the taniwha by bella

one day tamaereti looked at his supplie of food and saw it was very low so he went out fishing in his waka and caught three good fish but when he had caught them all the wind had died so he lay down in his waka and had a nap.after a few hours he woke up on the other side of the lake not to mention he was extemly hungry so he cooked his fich and enjoyed them very much after his meal he spotted some shinny pebbles in the water and got an idea so he put all the pebbles in his waka he could which made his boat very very bright so he through the pebbles up in the sky and made a beautiful light that scared the taniwha wawy from his waka now the sky is so beautiful now fot matariki and that lake is now called lake taupo now the maori celebrate the new year every year from liam and ben.
