between them brazil and the u.s show signs of wanting to transform quickly the ethanol into a international commodity when they announce as they did it and that they are willing to join efforts for technological efficiencies and reduction of tariffs levied on the product around the world these two ethanol giants demonstrated to be resolved to work together for the spread of ethanol and elimination of tariff barriers on a global level the desire for cooperation between brazil and the united states in the energy area is old but it was not until 2007 that the partnership began to take shape with the signing of the memorandum of understanding on biofuels between then president george w bush and luiz inácio lula da silva in the last five years the memo came out of paper and a lot has been achieved although they have commercial interests ahead the brazil had to import ethanol from u.s last year and u.s spent a lot of the subsidies to its producers of corn the raw material of the
