fairvale in the news fairvale in the news f the student voice fairvale high school fairvale high school held a talent quest this week to recruit performers for the school s performance at the bring it on festival in april the school took out first place in last year s competition and put the prize money towards an electric drum kit the champion asked students in the newly formed band what they liked about getting up on stage and performing chanel lea performing is just a lot of fun you work from the vibe from the audience and it s good to just get up and give it a go peter pigadas the buzz you get when you get up on stage it s just a good feeling all round i m looking forward to putting on a good show at bring it on like i always do cindy la mantia i think it is about inspiring others to give it a go showing the world and expressing yourself through music it s great to involve the crowd if you see people having a good time emphasise their joy daniel phung i love performing for people and that feeling you get when you re up on stage you just have to be yourself and try not to get nervous richard nguyen i like express rather than impress i watch people break dancing and i learn from them i like the challenge and having to put the effort in taylor gavanas it s exciting and it gets your heart pumping it is such a good experience especially in high school because we might not get this opportunity again outside of school featured in fairfield champion page 9 14 march 2012 tech-smart teacher shares her tips by tamara gasser innovate transforming learning in the digital classroom conference at anz stadium it is a conference where teachers showcase the different ict [information and communication technologies techniques they have incorporated into their lessons she said i find that using the software in the laptops makes it a lot easier for the students to relate to the theory because they are going through the work interactively and feel like they are actually doing something ms nievas 25 the youngest speaker at the conference will present a workshop on incorporating adobe flash in a lesson when the first round of government-funded laptops one of the examples i have used in class is to have were rolled out at fairvale high school in 2009 the students create an animation that moves across teacher pamela nievas was just starting out the screen and they have to incorporate literacy to ours was the first school in the country to get the build characters and create a story she said laptops and that was my first year as a teacher ms the conference will allow teachers to learn strategies nievas said they just sort of gave them out so to help the school adjust to a digital classroom for teachers didn t really know what to do with them at instance they ll give you some material about how to first integrate a smartboard into a pe lesson and you can the computing and design and technology teacher met the challenge of integrating the laptops into the classroom head on and next month will present some of her techniques to educators at the inspire take that back and encourage your school to give it a go ms nievas said featured in fairfield champion page 9 29 february 2012
