star healey featured in a documentary on the bbc called `my life star s incredible journey the documentary followed star s college trip to paris and her climb of 704 steps to the top of the eiffel tower in aid of the brile bone society star struggles to walk long distances and wears splints on her legs most of the time in the past she has suffered 45 broken bones including spinal fractures.the documentary shows star s days in college prior to the trip around college and in lessons supporting and sponsoring her.star s successful marathon climb took a gruelling three and a half hours but she reached the top it was painful but i didn t want to give up i needed to do it for the charity and i just couldn t give up she said to date star has raised over £2000 congratulations to rudi in year 11 who was a finalist for an art competition to design a front cover for a new book entitled `dark devine the competition was launched by `bree despain an american author of the dark devine trilogy a collection of young adult books rudi was set the task of illustrating the book cover to represent the trilogy fans have been voting on the blog and rudi was awarded third prize on the 13th march keep up the good work rudi oliver is coming to st thomas more for 3 consecutive nights from the27th-29th of march after a very successful production `honk last year this year s well known classic is based on the book `oliver twist by charles dickens miss brotherton the show s director has been working hard with the cast of students from years 7 to 11 at re-mastering the classic play the show s musical director mrs mcdonald has been working with the students to learn the songs and rehearse in time for the opening night the show stars jared donald in year 7 as oliver joe brammer in year 10 as fagin georgina hassall in year 11 as nancy and mahew mcgreevy in year 11 as the artful dodger we wish them every bit of luck during their performances and we look forward to another very successful production in november year 11 took the final unit of their gcse mathematics course 25 pupils achieved an a or a grade with 5 pupils achieving an a congratulations to eleanor gregory liam higgins micheal jordan harriet timmons and brendan todd for achieving the highest possible grade this is starting to be another fantastic year of outstanding results and we like to congratulate all pupils for the grades that they have achieved so far this academic year local business frenzy creative director rob ferrie came in to st thomas more rc college recently to speak to two groups of year 11 business studies students he talked about how he started his business in 2004 and about advertising and marketing denton based frenzy creative make mascot costumes and have produced costumes for the bbc duracell and holland and barra business studies teacher mr cant said a very successful visit it s vital that we cement what we learn in the classroom by providing real life business scenarios for the students to benefit from breargh holt was an amazing experience i made so many new friends and also many unforgeable memories i would recommend it to anyone wanting to go and it was brilliant value for money i especially liked the social on the saturday evening me and all my friends danced and laughed it was really fun seeing the staff trying to limbo under the pole i enjoyed the morning and evening prayers in the chapel thank you breargh holt and the teachers who came with us by lucy tipping7h

year 11 business studies students received a visit from barbara seaton from the natwest moneysense team she talked about personal finance and managing money and gave information about what students could do to manage their money beer and what products the bank has to help young people save barbara also gave students some real life scenarios to solve working in teams this has been a successful year for all our netball teams with all year groups finishing in first or second place in their league unfortunately only first place teams went through to the finals our year 7 `a team and the senior team year 10 and 11 made it to the finals our year 7 team beat st damian s to become tameside champions and the senior team beat copley to secured the tameside title once again congratulations to roisin clegg year 10 who represented tameside in the annual greater manchester cross country championships she finished 4th and has now been selected to represent english school s cross country championships tom grace year 11 was selected to represent st thomas more in the tameside college masterchef competition along with nine other pupils from different schools across the authority he was provided with a selection of ingredients to prepare a starter and a main course tom received excellent feedback from the professionals who were judging the competition and he has now been offered work experience in a hotel restaurant a group of year nine pupils aended tameside college to take part in a stem science technology engineering and mathematics project involving go4set they were required to present a project they had been working on over a 12 week period with mrs riley-thompson the concept was to develop turbines within the drainpipes around school in order to use rainwater to generate electricity the students were awarded the pupil s choice award which was decided by the other five teams from different schools after much deliberation from the assessors the students were awarded second place the judges thought their work was a high enough quality to be credited with a silver crest award from the british science association as a college we are involved in the sainsbury s `active kids programme which provides schools with equipment and resources designed to promote the olympic and paralympic games and the values of the games andrew gwynne our local mp came into college to look at some of our year 10 leaders and our year 9 young ambassadors playing blindfold football and goalball with the resources given to us by sainsbury s our pupils even let mr gwynne take a penalty and yes he scored miss burns even had a go and beat our pupils 7a performed a role play of st patrick s life for their assembly preparations included acting narrating and artwork all organised by the form kaiden ormrod portrayed the role of st patrick and daniel gooddy narrated the script the students dressed up as various roles during the play including naughty leprechauns to represent the irish kidnappers who stole patrick away from his homeland and took him to ireland to work as a slave for six years even though our music didn t work we are very proud of our first assembly where we worked well as a team.
