rambling cllth ross as this will be the last issue of the western caller for 1955,1 would ver much like to wish square dancers club organisers and callers all a very merry xmas and a happy new year one in which we will see many improvements increases and interests in this delightful fun of ours 00000000 tt s really good to see that most clubs hsve decided i favour of elosing down for the hot summer months there can be no question ~nat this it the right move if we look into the statistics kept at the office !bese show only too clearly that the summsrs of 53 and 54 took quite a t.ll of dancers from all clubs figures for 54 tell the story of clubs who ~ontinued to square throughout the heat, either folded completely or had t~eir ranks seriously depleted wftereaa those who had a definite recess lost at ~e most e set of dancers let s face 1 we will los some folk this summerfwhr ever we do but if our past and brief history points to losing more by tryin o dance on through then do let s have the break many dancers are get ung tired and nez-e and there the remark is made the break this year should do us all good don t forget your caller the break will do him good too you know only too well that the fun of a night s dancing depends almost entirely on the caller and this imposes a certain amount of strain on him in the long run this must affect his calling and your dancing 00000000 organisers when you hold your summer parties why not have member-s inrt te along their non-squaredancing friends this way they can meet dancers and see just what does happen when a group of squaries get together, and they are under no ob~igatiod it could be a means of introducing new members into your group this was the way square dancing popularity spread in the beginning yes by private parties 00000000 harvey square dance club s initiativ in organising a night in conjunction with the local district agricultural show, paid off handsomely there were over 9 sets present 80me folk travelling from bunbury, waroona and brunswick junction as well as a party from perth a set from waroona were adjudged the best dressed and later gave a delightful demonstration of dancing 00000000 remember jim mccutcheoat after an inexcusable silence, jim writes me to say that the victorian hoedown championships showed truly fantastic ability to answer calls here s the call that chose the winning set head ladles chain to the right with the opposite ¥irl, box the gnat wow your right hand lady with a left hand swing !o tbe walcotts took the t1tle,with the shooting stars, tangerines and whirly gigs all tieing for second place 00000000
