practical first aid training 2 abstract this study was designed to evaluate peoples opinions about receiving practical first aid training and help clarify the importance of receiving such training in the middle east a survey was published and answered by people from different age groups genders and nationalities therefore we recommend including practical first aid training as part of students and teachers education due to the following reasons first teachers claimed that not receiving practical first aid training caused them to become incapable of acting in an emergency situation second students who neglected the importance of receiving first aid training due to not having enough awareness about it as a result we reached an agreement which is providing practical first aid training that will help people become more confident acting in an emergency situation furthermore we found a strong relationship between first aid training and accidents rate and how this training could help reduce accidents rate.

practical first aid training 3 introduction is practical first aid training important in the kingdom of saudi arabia a high percentage of people in the middle east do not receive suitable practical first aid training which caused them to depend on their minimal knowledge that they have about first aid however that might not be enough to rely on in case of an emergency according to www.cambrianfirstaid.co.uk first aid is the provision of initial care for an illness or injury therefore in order to provide this care a person must undergo a practical training which provides the person with the sureness to comprehend an emergency situation that one is facing as a result new first aid programs are directing their vision to find a better way to train the society for this reason first aid training in schools is being taught by younger people which showed significant development in student s ability to learn and apply first aid carruth pryor cormier bateman matzke gilmore 2010 moreover first aid training programs showed momentous improvement in teacher s ability to help students in case of an emergency in a study by jorm kitchener sawyer scales cvetkovski 2010 first aid training increased teachers mental health knowledge and increased confidence in providing help to students and colleagues p 9 people who received first aid training were more capable of providing the basic requirements that an emergency situation entails kano siegel bourque 2005 moreover first aid training sessions were not only focusing on providing people with the ability to use first aid on themselves but also on others marchand martella 1990 as a result industrial accident that was caused by lack of awareness of first aid was reduced miller agnew 1973 therefore practical first aid training is vital in the middle east and it should be taught as a mandatory obligation in both educational and non-educational sector method

practical first aid training 4 we distributed a survey that was published on the 26th of february 2012 appendix i using www.freeonlinesurveys.com to assist our research paper however during the beginning of the survey distribution we faced some difficulties attracting people to answer our survey as a result we published our survey in several social networks and smart phones such as blackberries and iphones therefore people who answered the survey were from different ages and different gulf areas in addition we had people answering the survey from different countries including the united state of america england and canada thus we were capable of having a clear understanding of people s opinion about first aid training moreover females were more cooperative in answering the survey unlike males furthermore questions that were asked involved the knowledge of first aid in addition the questions that were asked were based on an experience such as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation cpr corresponding to the survey a high percentage of people who answered our survey did not know the ambulance number in saudi arabia which indicated that the basic knowledge of first aid is deprivation among people likewise most people did not know how to act in an emergence situation result according to the data from our survey indicated that approximately 70 of people who answered were women s which is shown in figure 1 appendix ii in addition the majority of people were between the age of 15 and 19 figure 2 figure 3 indicate that 60 of people did not receive first aid training course and there are about 60 of people who are willing to undergo first aid training session figure 4 furthermore above 59 of people agreed that first aid knowledge is not enough and practical training is required figure 5 unexpectedly 40 of people did not know the ambulance number in saudi arabia figure 6

practical first aid training 5 moreover figure 7 implies that less than 30 of people will act immediately in an emergency situation that requires first aid figure 8 shows that above 19 of people did not know basic first aid skills in addition 32 of people do not know what should be done in case of burning figure 9 as stated in figure 10 above 34 of people do not know what a cardiopulmonary resuscitation is furthermore figure 11 shows that 85 of people do not agree that the knowledge of first aid can be enough to implement in case of an emergency discussion this research paper reveal that first aid training is required by a high percentage of people in the middle east especially women which can be inferred in figure 1 therefore this shows that females are more concerned about receiving a first aid training course that could benefit them and others due to not having self-transportation in saudi arabia as a result this made it difficult for women to go to the hospital in case of a serious emergency situation that require advanced training likewise the lack of first aid training among people from different age groups is caused by both educational and non-educational sectors leading people to become incapable of acting immediately in situation that might require first aid training moreover teachers are the fundamental of knowledge in schools and students look up to them as their role model for example teachers who are applying for a job at a certain school do not have any practical first aid training which caused them to have the lack of self-assurance that is required in case of an emergency however if first aid training session were provided this would help them gain confidante leading in their immediate reaction toward a situation for instance doctors and nurses who work at schools could offer teachers first aid training sessions during their free periods pushing this further professors in universities should also be trained because they interact with dozens of people with different medical background such as people

practical first aid training 6 who are diagnosed with asthma additionally due to having constant dusty weather in saudi arabia the percentage of people who are diagnosed with asthma is increasing thus practical first aid training session is essential equally important educational sectors should also provide a fixed plane by selecting a group of students from different schools to train them the basics of first aid training thus students will convey the information that they learned during the training session to their classmates in the future in addition if people taught students their age at school they would be more comfortable asking questions and the information that they learned would remain for a long period of time for example cardiopulmonary resuscitation cpr is not common among a high percentage of saudi citizens which can be illustrated in figure 9 moreover students are spending most of their time with their friends without the supervision of their teachers resulting the students to be contemporaneous in situations that require practical first aid training such as burning fainting hypertension and asthma therefore first aid training is a very important to embrace their knowledge and abilities furthermore a high percentage of people lacked the basic knowledge of first aid our survey demonstrated a basic question about first aid that was what is the ambulance number in saudi arabia with out consulting a guide surprisingly 40 of people did not know the ambulance number in saudi arabia not to mention that it is considered one of the basic information of first aid that everyone should know however people who received suitable first aid training were more capable of implementing this knowledge in emergency circumstances in addition 59 of the respondents agreed that practical first aid training is necessary in emergency situation figure 5 as a result this implies that our hypothesis which state having the knowledge of first aid is not easy to implement unless you were practically

practical first aid training 7 trained is true in continuation to our discussion we were capable of reaching to an agreement that there is a convincing relationship between first aid training and reducing industrial accident rates car accident are the most common accidents among many countries even though female do not drive in saudi arabia this did not decrease the number of accident however if practical first aid training was available this will help citizens face numerical situation that might require more than just the knowledge of first aid therefore our purpose is not only to provide first aid training for educational sectors but also offer it to people from non-educational sectors therefore one of our survey questions was about whether people wanted to in role them self in first aid training course if they were offered one unpredictably 60 of people were willing to take first aid training course because they believed that the training course would assist them in case of an emergency conclusion our aim for writing this research paper was to enlighten people about the importance of receiving practical first aid training and how both educational and non-education sectors should provide it as a mandatory subject in addition in this research paper we were capable of unfolding some of the benefits that first aid training could provide hence we were capable of ratiocinate that having the knowledge of first aid is not enough to apply in an emergency situation unless the person practically trained therefore we hope that practical first aid training will be taught to teachers before they get accepted in any educational position furthermore providing certain students with training so they can teach their fellow classmates as this will be more effective and beneficial for them last but not least teaching first aid training to people will help in reducing the industrial accident rate.
