seham alarnab aljohara alsaud 18.3.2012 transportation in riyadh abstract transportation service which is available for use by the general public in riyadh may cause problems that government can overcome it like traffic and accidents population is one of the main reasons that cause the problem although government has provided public transportation and expand in it and build the new roads but it did not fulfill the citizens needs regardless to those who have private cars university students claimed that they face traffic every day and they re not using public transportation because its not comfortable not clean and also having private cars they also said that if transportation in the city of riyadh was widely useful they would use it to reduce traffic as much as possible it must focus on developing transportation like underground subways useful taxies and luxury buses introduction transportation is an important element that we need in life and it plays an important role in our daily lives transportation discuss many issues as its helpful to move people from place to another it also has bad effects on the society and the environment harhay 2007 saudi economy is doing whatever it takes to reduce traffic in planning the new roads toth 2011 also government has provided public transportation and expands in it because traffic congestion has been increasing worldwide as a result of population growth kwang 2012 new inventions have been explored called intelligent transportation systems like navigation and traffic 1

seham alarnab aljohara alsaud 18.3.2012 females was more than the males people from different universities answered between private and public universities in ksa the number of the students who use public transportation when going to university is very few students claimed that the reason they don t use public transportation is that it s not comfortable and another reasons like having private cars they cleared that if public transportation was widely useful in the city they may use a bus or other most of the students take to reach university approximately 20 to 30 minutes most of them go every day to university and usually face problems with traffic a big number of students agrees on public transportation is not useful in riyadh discussion the studies in our research that rules to transportation were profound not only about traffics and public transportation but about politics economics and health the results that have been showed were depended on our output expectations it was shown in the graphs in responsible rates and we discovered that it only used by the few people who don t have private cars in addition that it s not comfortable safe or even clean but if it was useful and there is variety of it and it s getting the focus of the importance from the government the would use it widely actually what made us get into this subject is because it s the news of the year we knew about it through newspapers and we have seen the change in the road project planning in riyadh through our survey we made sure that our theoretical consideration is applied to others who are the university students we change the graphs that describe the outputs and rates because of the large amount of people who joined in answering the survey different unsettled results were encountered in doing the graphs because of the 3

seham alarnab aljohara alsaud 18.3.2012 changing in he actual results like do you agree to charge for parking s and how long it takes you to reach university · figure 1 shows that average of the females was more than half the males who answered the survey · au and ksu were the highest average of university students who answered the survey figure 2 · · almost 88 of university student do not use public transportation figure 3 people don t use public transportation the most because it s not comfortable and other reasons figure 4 · · if public transportation were widely available they would use busses figure 5-11 most of university students take approximately 16-30 minutes to reach university figure 6 · · huge average of university students go to university every day figure 7 people agree and other disagrees on charges for parking but the overwhelming disagrees figure 8 · most of people usually have problems with traffic every time they go to university figure 9 · most of students claimed on that public transportation is not useful in riyadh figure 10 in our study we are looking forward to encourage the government to look at the topic in mind and put their interest and means in transport development to benefit citizens and society 4
