the effects of video games 2 the effects of video games abstract the aim of this study is to prove that addiction to video games has effect on human behavior this study was conducted in 2012 there were 50 participants assigned to our study from saudi arabia south africa egypt pakistan and england the participants took part in this study by answering a questionnaire online from the questionnaire we summarized getting addicted to a nonviolent game will not affect behavior but getting addicted to a violent game will result to negative behavior this partly proves our hypothesis that addiction to video games has effects on human behavior introduction since technology has been an important pillar in our daily lives video games have taken part in the community therefore we decided to gain more information about the effects of video games among all entertainment inventions nothing has improved and spread like video games nowadays video games are easier to get your hands on by simply downloading the games on your portable devices video games are commonly found in hands of different ages day by day this makes it easier to play video games anytime and anywhere as a result it makes it easier for young people to be addicted we started this research by collecting five articles about the effects of video games to get a basic knowledge of what to expect after that we began to do some research on the topic by going down to a well-known video game store we did notice a huge number of young people and one of the articles mentioned video games largest consumers are young people in addition young people spend longer time playing video games as dr phil s study shows the average time spent playing is 13 hours per week for boys and five hours for girls after reading the articles and looking back at the previous studies about the effects those video games has we hypothesize that addiction to video games has effects on human behavior.

the effects of video games 3 methodology we started doing 10 questionnaires about the effects of video games on human behavior the questionnaire survey was answered 50 people besides saudi arabia people answered the survey from pakistan egypt south africa and england the reason we got international answerers is because we presented the questionnaires on the world wide web on the social networking websites twitter facebook and bbm although we had 50 people answer the survey the majority that answered the survey are females because we found it hard to reach the male gender results figure1 gender figure 2 age from figure 1 we can notice that the majority of the gender chart was females and approximately quarter were males the age from 16-20 took the biggest part in our study which is shown in figure 2 do you play video games 50 40 30 20 10 0 yes always yes some times yes but only with company no not at all figure 3 do you play video games?

the effects of video games 4 figure 4 how many hours do you play a week we figured out that 45 of the people we surveyed play video games but not always as shown in figure 3 the hours that most people spend playing a week are mostly from 1-3 hours/week addicted people took 14 by answering that they do play video games more than 7 hours a week figure 4 figure 5 what are the ages of people who play video games the most from figure 5 we understand that 55 of the gamers were teenagers and 34 were children figure 6 do you think that video games have more positive or negative effects?

the effects of video games 5 figure 7 do you get aggressive when playing a video game when we asked about the kind of effect that video games has on the gamers we found that 66 agreed that it has more negative effects than positive and around 37 said that the effects are equal figure 6 figure 7 illustrate that getting aggressive when playing video games depends on the game type however the results from figure 8 showed a high rate of people who play a second round if they lose in a game which might to lead to more and more games been played 18.4 said that they would play another game and 21 will take it easy from figure 9 we notice that if someone disturbed a gamer while playing 32 of the gamers will pause the game and see what the disturbing person want and about 28 will yell at them figure 8 if someone beats you in a game how do you behave?

the effects of video games 6 figure 9 how do you behave when someone disturbs you while playing video games figure 10 if someone asks you to stop the game for some reason would you stop it the last graph figure 10 shows that if gamers were asked to stop the game for some reason will they about 38 said that they would stop the game depend on the person who is asking them mother father etc 31 agreed o stop the game which is a good behavior however from the survey we found out that only 5 of people who took the survey do not play video games and the rest were all gamers discussion from our hypothesis addiction to video games has effects on human behavior the purpose of this study was to prove if addiction to video games has effects on human behavior and what kind of effect does it have fifteen percent of the 50 people we surveyed were addicted to video games as the survey result showed when they answered that they do play video games for more than 7 hours a week when we asked gamers about their reaction towards someone who has beaten them in a game ten percent answered they

the effects of video games 7 would get aggressive and twenty one percent answered they would take it easy which is a positive sign under this question many options were available and people were able to choose more than one answer for example fighting with the other person but only seven present choose this answer which is a prove that the majority of the gamers do think before they behave however gamers have negative behavior depending on the game type they were playing i.e violent video games from the survey results we summarized that addicted video gamers have negative behavior as 60 answered we have come to summary when we asked do you get aggressive when playing video games thirty six percent answered depends on the game type so do video games have an effect on human behavior yes they do depending on the game type approximately twenty seven percent of the gamers will play a second round which could lead to more playing hours then addiction getting addicted to a nonviolent game will not affect behavior but getting addicted to a violent game will result to negative behavior as we were expecting the results did match the way we were thinking and supported our thoughts as a result this proves our hypothesis that a small percent of the people are already addicted and the rest are on the verge of falling into the addiction plus the effects that video games has on a person are negative effects we recommend that in the future studies about this topic to survey more people and concentrate on having suitable questions to prove the hypothesis.
