kia ora koutou congratulations on our first team who went out to top schools at paengaroa school in the weekend it was great to see the whole team working together to help each other to complete the tasks our team did really well especially as we were entered in a year 5/6 competition with no year 6 s i was very proud of you all thank you to the parents who supported the team a lot of fun was had by all school survey a big thank you to those of you who have taken the time to give us feedback in the surveys so far this year this is a great way for us to know how you feel about different aspects of the school last week s survey gave us feedback about the learning snapshot conferences we aim to meet with 100 of our families so thank you for making the effort to attend and share in the learning partnership with your children the feedback was as follows what are we doing well in our learning snapshot conferences great to have a catch up so early in the school year i was dying to know how my son was doing clear concise summary of our child s progress and listened to our suggestions and input great not to have the kids there much easier to discuss their strengths and weaknesses and find out exactly where they are at 15 minutes is much better than 10 minutes long too great time length great that you reported to us informally and formally in this opportunity and there was time left over for us to ask questions and chat further about any points teachers obviously well prepared proud gives a good basis for understanding how our child is settling in to school i appreciated being told clearly which areas my child is not achieving in as well as where she is doing well easy to book a conference nice to have an one on one chat with the guardian enjoyed the extended time slot and the information was well explained for each of my children with clear focus on other areas for extension outside of the classroom very precise and well organised and good follow up letter what can we do to improve our learning snapshot conferences i feel that 15 mins was too short nothing 15 minutes was adequate time allowed happy with the current format keep them like this thank you thought it was perfect all you need to know for beginning of the year not really clear if students needed to be present at the conference little bit confusing how all the levels etc work eg maths reading etc it is already good have the toilets open new enrolments we have a large number of new entrants starting between now and the beginning of may it is exciting to see these classes as they grow please encourage anyone with 4 year old s who intend to enrol with us to come to the office for an enrolment pack a special golden sands welcome to blake lily who have started in sheppard this week hangi tickets are selling really quickly so if you would like to order hangi meals tickets are being sold in the multipurpose space nat will be there selling tickets this thursday and friday and next wednesday and thursday the hangi meals are pre-packed in takeaway containers and are ready for pick up between 5.30 and 6pm please encourage family members neighbours and anyone else who likes a good hangi to buy a ticket email natalie taute natalietaute@gmail.com for ticket purchases or if you would like to take some tickets to sell at work or sports practices all funds raised go to the playground media team congratulations to our media team for putting up their first article on the website you can find this article on the website under news centre this button is at the top by the home button these articles will be added to throughout the year thank you thank you to the bonner family for creating and donating our readers chair in the learning centre i know that everyone is enjoying it thank you also to dan strange who has designed and created a stunning time capsule for us it is also resting on a beautifully crafted cradle once we have a display cabinet for this it will be in the learning centre for everyone to enjoy.

icas exams this year we are offering the nsw exams for years 4-5 students the exams are best suited to more able students and provide great opportunities to win awards the exams are in english science maths writing spelling and computer studies children can enter one or all of them depending on interest letters explaining the awards and associated costs have been given to children a reminder that the closing date for entries is the end of this month please ensure that you have them in on time life education life education provides young people in their formative years with awareness and an understanding of their incredible body they use positive dynamic messages conveyed non-judgementally to encourage children to make informed decisions about what goes into their bodies our life education educator lea and harold the giraffe invite you to attend an information session in the life education mobile classroom this date is to be confirmed as we have just noticed a clash in times for your child to attend they must have paid the relevant fee from shows and events quake safety show next monday 26th march childsafe1 will be presenting a fun and exciting quake safety show in the multipurpose space at 9:30am the cost for the show is $5.00 which forms part of the $30 shows and event fees children must have paid this fee to attend change of date please note that the final assembly for this term is tuesday 3 april at 2pm this assembly is hosted by hillary and our special guests are the men from the rsa talking about anzac day entertainment books are coming the brand new 2012/2013 entertainmenttm book will be available from the school office from next monday 26th march the book features many of the area s best restaurants cafes hotel accommodation attractions and activities for families all with valuable 25 to 50 off and 2 for 1 offers entertainmenttm books provide important funds for our school and valuable savings for our families please take the time to look through the book at the school office and take as many orders as you can from your work colleagues friends or relatives sports costs we have had a couple of queries regarding the cost of team sports at golden sands school these costs are directly reflective of the costs to enter the teams unfortunately this is not always able to be compared with other schools costs as for example our netball teams play in the te puke league rather than the mount one te puke netball has a higher cost attached to it we also add between $5 10 per child to purchase practice balls gear bags and first aid kits for the team we do not make any money from these fees have a great week everyone kind regards term dates melanie taylor principal term 1 31 january ­ 5 april term 2 23 april ­ 29 june term 3 16 july ­ 28 september term 4 15 october ­ t.b.a fri 23 mar 2pm celebration assembly fri 23 mar lunch juicie sales $1.00 mon 26 mar 9:30am quake safety show 5.00 fri 30 mar 2pm celebration assembly fri 30 mar life ed programme begins$4.00 fri 30 mar lunch juicie sales $1.00 sat 31 mar hangi 10 per ticket celebration assembly what would you like frogss to sell for fundraising lunches in tues 3 apr 2pm the winter terms thur 5 apr lunch juicie sales $1.00 we would love some inspiration please fill out the survey by thur 5 april 2:30pm last day of term 1 copying and pasting the link into your browser and following the shows event fees need to be paid this event frogss meeting next frogss meeting is this thursday 22 march at 7.30pm in the staff room this will be a brief meeting to go over all areas of frogss including the potential sponsorship opportunities new parents/caregivers more than welcome to join us lots happening in term 2 prompts there is only one question this will give our frogss money collected on wed/thur in multi purpose space organisers some valuable direction on the food you would like to see being sold what s happening

flippa ball year 2 3 s ­ apologies for the time mix up we have been led to believe that the only times which had changed had been year 4 and above sorry for the inconvenience results there were no games this weekend due to top schools and a mix up with the year 3 times draw sunday 25th march time white caps 12:30pm fairhaven 1:00pm omanu jiving jellyfish 1:30pm gss seals 3:00pm omanu dolphins blue caps gss orcas gss dolphins fairhaven gss wave jumpers vs vs vs vs please be at the pool 30 min before the game as we are able to have a 30 min practice please let miss clark know if you are going to be away netball any year 3-5 children wanting to trial for the a team remember the trials will be held on tuesday 20th and 27th of march and tuesday 3rd april you must attend 2 of the 4 trials to be eligible sports shoes are compulsory if it is wet the trial will be in the multipurpose space if your child does not make the a team they will be placed in an appropriate age and skill level team children in year 2 or children not wanting to trial are still welcome on tuesday afternoon for skills and drills softball skills and drills for any children in year 3-5 on mondays 2:45pm-3:30pm dance appreciation classes come and learn the basics of dance and maybe even find a new hobby we explore a variety of music styles and dance genres and learn about rhythm beat posture and so much more boys and girls of all ages are welcome to come mondays 2:30 3:20 at golden sands school call michelle on 542 1475 or 0220797522 or e-mail at michellejamieson34@gmail.com papamoa school gala it is time again for our popular school gala held on saturday 24 march from 9.30am 12.30pm at papamoa school dickson rd great prizes great fun everyone welcome.
