omega epsilon zeta zeta phi beta sorority inc annual gala &scholarship dinner scholarships national educational foundation since 1975 the national educational foundation has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships and fellowships for higher education to both zetas and non-zetas the foundation has processed hundreds of other scholarships as a part of its chapter designated scholarship program established in 1980 under the program local scholarships and fellowships are awarded by chapters throughout the country the foundation s scholarship program is funded by support of its principal donor zeta phi beta sorority inc through chapter tax and life member fees by contributions and gift from members and chapters by the board of manager s contributions and fundraising memorial scholarships as well as fundraising at the regional and state level endowments has been established for the foundation at the national level chapter level and by the board of managers general graduate available to graduate women working on a professional degree masters doctoral or enrolled in post-doctoral study awarded for full-time study for one academic year fall-spring not to exceed $2,500 per year-paid directly to recipient general undergraduate available to college freshmen sophomores juniors seniors and graduating high school seniors planning to enter college in the fall awarded for full-time study for one academic year fall-spring amount varies from $500 to $1,000 paid directly to college or university and to be applied to tuition or appropriate fees proof of enrollment/university acceptance must be received deborah partridge wolfe international fellowship available to graduate or undergraduate united states students studying abroad and/or graduate or undergraduate foreign students studying within awarded for full-time study for one academic year fall-spring amount varies from $500 to $1,000 paid directly to recipient documented proof of academic study and plan of program must be sent to the scholarship chairperson with signature of school administrator or program director s evelyn lewis memorial scholarship in medical health sciences available to graduate or undergraduate young women enrolled in a program leading to a degree in medicine or health sciences awarded for full-time study for one academic year fall-spring amount varies from $500 to $1,000 paid directly to the college or university proof of enrollment required 2

omega epsilon zeta zeta phi beta sorority inc annual gala &scholarship dinner zeta phi beta sorority inc history founded january 16 1920 zeta began as an idea conceived by five coeds arizona cleaver myrtle tyler viola tyler fannie pettie and pearl neal at howard university in washington d .c zeta phi beta sorority was founded to address societal mores ills prejudices poverty and health concerns of the day our five pearls dared to depart from traditional coalitions for black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of scholarship service sisterly love and finer womanhood over the years since the sorority s inception zeta phi beta has chartered hundreds of chapters and initiated thousands of women around the world zeta has continued to thrive and flourish while adapting to the everchanging needs of a new century despite the great depression discrimination segregation and a host of other challenges that arose through the years zeta has continued to hold true to its ideals and purpose 7

germon mama g miller-bey phd h ailing from a mixed lineage of west indian hebrew cultures dr germon mama g miller spent her growth years in philadelphia pa attending the celebrated cecilian academy for her entire primary secondary education with the mercy of the creator and the blessings of the ancestors she single parented two sons and 4 foster daughters into adulthood and accomplished this while surviving attempted domestic murder homelessness incarceration and welfare turning these catastrophes into triumphs to reclaim her self-preservation and being able to complete her academic degrees to include a b .s biology university of pennsylvania a ba/ma antioch university behavioral sciences/doctorate frankfurt germany university international studies while teaching for dodds on her return to the states in 1991 she increased her participation in youth anti-violence programs by establishing the akeru discipline sciences program to assist juveniles whose lifestyles were beyond the scope standard classrooms her sidewalk university concept was designed to eliminate the stigma associated with teens from poverty environments she then established an intern program where human/social service students could personally interact with active youth gang/crew members glean knowledge which is not documented in periodicals her pseudonym of mama g mama gangsta is recognizable for her edu-tainment motivational presentations her belief is based on the afrikan tradition of gyneme fear nothing except the creator her motto from comedienne moms mabley if you always do what you always done you always get what you always got dr miller is acknowledged as a torch bearer in the international education of the afrikan martial sciences she has blazed a path as an authority in the afrikan combat systems not only through academic research but also as an international grand champion competitor for over 3 decades her successes include capturing over 2000 trophies 2 world titles 4 world gold medals in fighting forms self-defense and weapons between 2006 and 2010 alone she has won 10 black belt grand championships in weapons firearm disarmament self-defense against men half her age dr miller serves on many international boards as a director as well as a consultant authority in the afrikan martial sciences most recently she has been honored with the golden pioneer award from the international martial arts times magazine grandmaster of the year at the london hall of fame national women s martial arts federation educator world afrikan martial arts conference lead presenter maryland daughters of the american revolution candidate and a cameo movie role with ultimate fighting champion dan the beast severn her autobiographical manuscript a journey of self-preservation ­ the legacy of akeru was published in december 2008 next has been an illustrated biomythography action novel entitled the sovereign knights due for release in the spring of 2012 these two published works are available with a personal autograph for a donation of $35.00 to the akeru legacy council by contacting dr miller via gyneme@yahoo.com on her return to columbia sc she has presented before the city council and the school board her research analysis about truancy situational domestic violence she personally established and voluntarily instructs a women s awareness curriculum and continuing education program for young adults at several public housing and recreation centers .
