welcome from the board of trustees mr mark turnwald bot chairperson it s a new school year i am delighted to welcome new children and families to our school and say welcome back to our returning students for 2012 we are really looking forward to a year filled with great learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom for ohaupo students on that note i hope you understand the extent to which our school relies on your support there is an inevitable gap between government funding and the resources and opportunities that ohaupo school strives to make available for your child s learning the board and pta really need your help please if you have ever considered lending a hand now s the time to come forward for those who are a little shyer we trust you ll be flattered if we contact you directly if there s something in particular that we think you might like to be involved in we d love to know what your skills and talents are please do let us know volunteering a little of your precious time would be enormously appreciated it can also be a great opportunity to get to know the parents of your kids friends and the staff i would personally like to encourage you to get involved in our school community in 2012 for those of you who already are i say a heartfelt thank you ohaupo bot plan for community consultation for 2012 charter every 3 years the board of trustees reviews the school charter and sets out the plan for the following 3 years as part of this process it is very important for us to get feedback from the community school management team teachers and our maori community the plan is to start the consultation process mid february so please expect a call from one of the current ohaupo school bot we hope to make these calls between 7.00-9.00 pm and should only take 10-15mins of your time i have listed a summary of the questions we will be asking so you get some time to put your thinking caps on this is a very important process for us all and sets the direction of ohaupo school into the future 1 2 3 4 why is ohaupo school the choice for your children s education what is/are the important thing/s ohaupo school should provide for your child what focus do you think would make the greatest impact on your children s learning/achievement at ohaupo school when your child leaves ohaupo school what do they need to know be able to do and how should they feel about themselves thanks for your time and feedback as this is important for the future direction of the ohaupo school regards ohaupo school bot food at school as of thursday 16th feb all students will be asked to take back home any uneaten food or food scraps and lunch wrappings this includes orange peels crusts and apple cores we are introducing this for the following reasons · · · · · we are concerned that many students are throwing away large parts of their lunches sometimes with out even opening the wrapping and some students are doing this before they even leave the classroom before school starts or when they put their morning tea rubbish in the bin monitoring what students put into the bin is difficult and time consuming children often complain that they do not like the food that is in their lunch and yet they will bring it day after day we are sure that they are not informing their parents or the parents are not understanding what is needed sending uneaten or nibbled at food back home will help children communicate with their parents there is a growing issue with the disposing of rubbish in open bins wind blows it out food that misses the bin is attracting vermin and the amount students are throwing away is increasing parents can be assured that any containers or reusable snap lock bags used for lunches will come home finally we recommend that all students have a lunchbox or a sealable plastic bag for their lunches to prevent food spoiling books or clothes thank you for your support with this initiative and we ask you to be patient with any teething issues thank you for your co-operation kerry adams linda clarke sue mclocklan and scott coley.
