what s in the daily noticeboard stp conferences parkland hub library requests stars of the week road safety in-school keyboard classes lunch helpers required stationery payments newsletter this week weetbix tryathlon grasshopper tennis internation comp assessments parkland prize puzzler parentline change of address contacts after school arrangements pta news picnic dear parents our glorious summer rolls on and we enjoy those infrequent sunny days that come each fortnight our term is well and truly underway and i would like to thank everyone who has made the effort to ensure children have all the correct stationery items for their class and are dressed in correct school uniform we have two key events coming up in the next few weeks which parents will want to participate in stp conferences will be held on march 1st parents should note that the school will close early at 12.50pm that day conferences will then run through until 7.30pm there is an expectation that all families/whanau participate in these we also have our parkland pta picnic planned for wednesday february 22nd at 5.30pm we have not been too lucky with the weather in the past few years but jim hickey says it will be fine remember that the hub is the place to go for classroom information and the term calendar for parents if you are looking for information and it is not there let us know peter barnett principal

daily noticeboard we have a new digital noticeboard in the front foyer of the school this has been purchased by the parkland pta this will replace the noticeboard on wheels that will now only be used for special notices and alerts sports days uniform sales days etc the digital display will carry important upcoming event notices as well as an assortment of pictures from events happening around the school s.t.p conferences have you booked your stp conference time yet these are very important opportunities for students teachers and parents to get together early in the school year to share information and establish learning goals together stp conferences will be held on thursday march 1st week 5 nb school will close at 12.50pm on that day go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz enter the school code d8t65 there is an expectation that every family/whanau make an stp conference booking and meet with their child s teacher if you are unable to make this date please contact the class teacher to make alternative arrangements contact the office for support to make bookings if you do not have internet access or are having any difficulties at all

www.parkland.school.nz children and parents are encouraged to use the hub on a regular basis it is the first place to go to find out information about your child s class and their work check the school calendar on a regular basis library requests if a library book is damaged while out on loan please return it us to be repaired we would prefer this because we have the right materials to use for book repair sellotape is not suitable if you have some spare time twice each term to assist with the scholastic book orders we would really appreciate your help from time to time we do have other tasks that we would like help with just call in and see jenny or helen or leave a message at the office if you are able to help.

road safety thank you to all families who have not moved the orange cones to gain access to the school carpark in the afternoons this ensures the `afterschool care vans are able to collect children safely we remove the cones as soon as possible and most days this is by 3.05pm in-school keyboard classes these commenced again on monday 13 february half hour classes are held in the group teaching room with up to 3 children at a time for children aged 6 and over contact terrie smith 356 7075 lunch helpers required we require more parents to add to our list for help with sausage sizzle every second friday people are needed to take orders before school and to cook from 12 noon to 1.00pm you will be rostered only once per term but can do more if you wish if you are a new parent this is a good opportunity to get involved and to meet other parents you can leave your contact details at the office with barb or kath stationery payments just a reminder that parents who have opted to receive the stationery packs and have chosen to pay the school donation early the date for this payment is february 29th this is a great option for parents and we get a very high percentage of parents who choose to take up the offer weetbix tri the weetbix triathlon will be held the morning of wednesday 21st march during school time this is open to those 7 years and older registration forms are available from the office the cost is $35 children receive a t shirt and a medal it would be great to get lots of parkland children competing any questions see miss young in room 3 school entries close on friday 2 march grasshopper tennis we have been very fortunate to have jared kemsley to run the programme again this year it will commence on monday 5 march and run for 4 weeks each child will have 4 lessons with their class the cost will be $4.50 and can be paid at the office or charged to your child s activity account.

international competitions assessments for schools icas each year we offer parents and students the opportunity to participate in these tests they provide students with an opportunity to gain a measure of their own achievement levels in an external testing situation each child receives a detailed sheet providing information about where they `sit in relation to other students in the same year group throughout nz participation is completely voluntary and is fully funded by parents this year we will offer science writing spelling english mathematics june 6 june 18 june 19 july 31 august 14 $7.50 $17.50 $9.50 $7.50 $7.50 watch out for the form that will come home next week if you do not receive one by wednesday simply contact the school office please note however that entry into these competitions closes at parkland school on march 30th no late entries will be accepted parkland pride puzzler question what classroom is nearest to this piece of play equipment answer name room place all entries in the box in the foyer.

change of contact details if your address home phone number or other emergency contact has changed since term 1 last year could you please email us or phone to update your details phone the office at 358 1469 or email office@parkland.school.nz after school arrangements if children are meeting parents or caregivers after school please collect them from school rather than ask them to wait `up the hill or somewhere else outside the school grounds that way if you are running late you can give us a ring and we can pass the message on to your child it is also safer for children to wait for you at school from the pta pta community picnic/sausage sizzle welcome back wednesday 22 march 5.30 7pm we look forward to seeing as many families as possible bring your own dinner if you wish but there will be a free sausage sizzle come along and meet teachers and other parents there will be games and activities organised on the field we are hoping for a fine day and a good turnout second hand uniforms we currently have quite a lot of uniform items for sale these will be available for sale at the picnic evening we have lots of short sleeved polo shirts in assorted sizes including a couple in sizes 12 and 14 there is also a number of skirts and skorts in sizes 4-8 there are assorted sizes of half zip polar fleeces there is a small number of shorts long sleeved polos pants and track pants and sunhats there will also be a limited number of shoes prices for uniform items are as follows polo shirts $12 skirts skorts shorts pants $15 polar fleeces $20 shoes $5 parkland sunhats 3
