phone 358-5204 9 february 2012 cellphone 027-362-5008 email ­ office@milson.school.nz website ­www.milson.school.nz fax 358-2697 no 2012/02 p ­ positivity/participation r ­ respect/responsibility i ­ individuality/integrity d ­ determination e ­ empathy/excellence principals comment the first week has certainly flown past we have had a terrific start to the new year and we have been impressed by the attitude and efforts of all students ­ showing great pride values in the way they work as milson pupils as you probably know we have new fences being put in around the school note to open them the lever is on the top of the inside of the gate a black lever needs to be lifted to open it please note that smaller children can not open this fence so if your child is late to school they may well not be able to get in if your child is late you may need to come to the gate to let them in and not just drop them off the fence has been built from funding from ministry of education and is designed to ensure the safety of our pupils ­ and also to cut the use of our school as a walkthrough by various people note that in the weekends we may well be locking the entrance to the school via rutland place to cut down the traffic that uses the school simply to cut through notices will be put up asking people to not come through the school from 8.30-3.30 on school days unless on school business we also expect visitors to report to the school office first this means also that secondary and intermediate pupils should not be coming through the school grounds 8.303.30 unless they are collecting a sibling work in room 11 is progressing at good pace as well and hopefully should be finished by the end of next week and pupils who have been with rhys in room 18 this fortnight will be able to have their new refurbished classroom back with all new wall linings painting carpet and improved computer networking in place meet the teacher each team is running a special assembly to meet new parents and this will be followed with a short session in individual classes with teachers ­ to outline some expectations as well as to meet with everyone a separate notice will be coming home from teams about this the planned dates and times are as follow kauri team ­ monday 13th 2.25 pm totara team ­ tuesday 21st 2.30 pm rata team ­ thursday 16th 2.15 pm proverb whahataukof the week kau a e takatia te mana o te tangata do not trample on the strength of the people

visiting performer on the 28th and 29th of february we will be having stu duvall visit our school he will be running sessions over two days at the very reasonable cost $4.00 per student if you have not paid your activity fee prior to this then you will need to send $4.00 per child to school in a labelled envelope and hand it to your child s classroom teacher by friday the 24th of february 1 pta will be holding a meeting on wednesday 15th february at 7pm in the school staffroom this meeting is to discuss the gala which is to be held on march 23rd and other fundraising ideas for 2012 everyone is welcome to come and join us if you are unable to make the meeting but wish to know more about our pta please contact michelle morris pta chairperson on ph 3533-921 or email morrisc@ihug.co.nz 2 when to get to school note that we really would rather no children arrive before 8.30 am but recognise in some cases this is not possible if they are early they are not able to enter their classrooms until after the 8.30am bell has rung before that time they should wait on the hall veranda until the bell rings they can then put gear away in their cloak-bays and go to their classrooms 3 school patrol pupils ­ it is terrific our seniors have once again taken on this responsibility and they are having another training session today can we remind them that they need to be at school by 8.25 am in the morning to get organised to go on patrol if your child is away for some reason if they can arrange with a trained friend to do it that is terrific or let the school office know so we can organise a replacement 4 softball 2012 although this doesn t start until the end of this year please contact pete if you are interested in coaching 5 activity fee if you would like to pay your child s activity fee for 2012 please do so before the 24th february if you don t pay prior to this date you will need to pay for each event that occurs through the year 6 scooters/bicycles ­ a couple of reminders all wheel vehicles are kept during the day in courtyard outside the library/staffroom note this gate is not locked during the day and we strongly recommend that pupils lock their equipment during the day we will not be responsible if gear goes missing also unless children are coming with their parents they should not be biking by themselves before year 5 they also must wear a helmet and walk their bike when in school grounds if this does not occur they may lose the right to bike to school messages and reminders triathlon events team triathlon next week we will be holding a fun team triathlon between the kauri team classes each class will be entering 2 teams of 6 to compete against each other in the three events of swim cycle run weather permitting we will hold this on wednesday 15th at 12.30 you are welcome to come and watch individual triathlon this will lead up to our individual triathlon in week 4 on 22 february an individual notice to those children keen to enter that from totara and kauri teams will come home next week seeking parent permission kauri class camps rooms 7 and 8 will be going on camp monday 5 ­ wednesday 7 march rooms 5 and 6 will be going on camp wednesday 7 ­ friday 9 march thank you to all the parents who have offered to help on these camps all help is greatly appreciated next week you will receive a permission and medical form which all students need to have filled in and return to their class teacher note the cost is $130 per pupil and this will need to have been paid before camp or your child will be unable to attend it is possible to set up a payment over time from a bank account please see vicki in the office as soon as possible if you want to arrange this.
