the great willy-willy by amy carr i had been traveling in the amazon rainforest for about three months with one of my fellow photographers sally who also happens to be my cousin we were looking for the endangered gorilla but we had also gotten pictures of a cobra red-eyed tree frog and many more in modern day sally and i were sitting under a drooping tree listening to the eerie sounds of the dark misty rainforest when in the distance we saw a bright light that looked like a campfire as we traveled towards the cabin an older woman of around 60 came outside carrying a pair of binoculars looked around and noticed us observing her every move trying to determine if she was dangerous or not and beckoned us inside after we gathered our belongings and walked inside we sat down by the burning warmth of the fire place mary the owner of the house brought sally and i a cup of hot chocolate without notice mary asked us if we knew but we looked at her in confusion she told us about the great willy-willy a severe tropical cyclone that comes from the australian language native later that evening we experienced one of the world s most fascinating winds we even got pictures!
