term 1 week 1 wednesday 8th february 2012 our school vision to provide a platform which launches enables students to make their own limitless choices tena koutou katoa greetings to you all we extend a warm welcome to you all for 2012 the year begins with a school roll of 177 students and 8 classroom teachers the school classrooms have been renumbered and mrs mcrobbie and the reading recovery room is now located in the administration office the classrooms year levels and staff are as follows room 1 yrs 2/3 room 2 yrs 1/2 room 3 yrs 0/1 room 4 yrs 2/3 junior student support room 5 yrs 4/5 room 6 yrs 4/5 room 7 yrs 6/7 room 8 yrs 7/8 mrs bev boyes mrs karen church mrs linda clarke miss amy hawkins mrs helen humberstone mrs jocelyn langridge mr mark harrop mr bruce mitchell mrs julie gray maths student support mrs jane matthews esol teacher and literacy extension mrs val millington reading recovery literacy teacher and classroom release time mrs jennifer mcrobbie office personnel mrs anni roberts and mrs barbara wahle property and hygiene personnel ms allisha reid and mr scott coley mrs jocelyn langridge room 5 teacher i would like to introduce mrs jocelyn langridge our new teacher in room 5 who i am pleased to welcome back to ohaupo after a three year stint as principal at hangitiki school from monday march 5th until monday the 26th november i will be on study leave to conduct my thesis to complete my master s in educational leadership mrs kerry adams our current deputy principal will be acting principal and mrs linda clarke currently assistant principal will be acting deputy principal whaea vicki room 7 for the first four weeks the school and in particular rooms 1 and 7 are enjoying the additional professional support of whaea vicki and whaea mihi our student teachers sue mclocklan principal kia ora koutou my name is mihi smith and i am a 3rd year student teacher training at the wananga in glenview i live in cambridge so its lovely to be able to do my training at a local school if you see me come over and say hello whaea mihi with kaysha and greer from room 1 kia ora my name is vicki bell i m a 3rd year student teacher and i have 4 children of my own i love playing tennis netball and hockey and i m thoroughly enjoying my 4 week practicum in room 7 at ohaupo hi it is lovely to be back at ohaupo school after being the teaching principal of hangatiki school in the north king country for the last three years i still live on mt pirongia just up from the village with my husband martin our three dogs and various other animals our two daughters are now at university i hope to meet you all soon and am looking forward to teaching room 5 week 1 friday 10th february 9am assembly week 2 monday 13th feb 7pm pta meeting staff room tuesday 14th feb asb get wise financial prog wednesday 15th feb get wise financial prog swimming lessons yr 4 8 thursday 16th february y 7 8 tech classes start at peachgrove friday 17th feb 9am assembly swimming lessons yr 4 8 week 3 monday 20th february hearing and vision technician tuesday 21st february swimming lessons yr 4 8 wednesday 22nd february 7pm ict student workshop friday 24th february 9am assembly week 4 tuesday 28th february 7pm reading for success parent evening in the ict suite wednesday 29th february ohaupo school hosting regional rtlb `steps conference phone 07 823 6736 fax 07 823 6732 email office@ohaupo.school.nz

ohaupo sports 2012 a very warm welcome to all our new students jemma taylor jacob burnell bianca and saxon winstanley-mounsey all new entrants in room 3 maeghan taylorstill room 2 holly lindsay room 4 nikau christianos room 1 grace lindsay and karen walker room 5 krista taylorstill tony peake and jarrod walker room 6 sarah-jane hudson sarah walker and jasmine choi room 7 a special mention to jasmine who is an international student joining us from korea until the beginning of may please give all our new students and their families a warm and friendly welcome ohaupo school sports club is looking for new and returning players for our netball soccer and basketball teams for the upcoming season we will be having a muster for all of these codes in a couple of weeks but would like to hear from you if your child is interested in joining one of our teams we are also looking for any parents or older teens siblings etc to help with the coaching managing and umpiring please register your interest to manu jones via email manu-jones@xtra.co.nz cellphone 027 237 9569 or home on 07 823 6901 ohaupo school sports club family fun evening come join ossc team at ohaupo school on thursday 23rd february 2012 at 6pm for an evening of social sports this week netball so bring your trainers a picnic dinner and drinks there is a bbq available byo meat for a fun family evening cardboard boxes does anyone have any empty cardboard boxes or banana boxes we can have for collecting our paper recycling please bring to rm 1 many thanks mrs boyes you are what you read young people who have a reading and writing identity understand who they are and how to make their lives better ngahinapouri junior cricket we are looking for boys and girls who are year 5 to year 8 to play saturday morning hardball cricket for one of our two teams trainings are on wednesday nights at 5pm at ngahinapouri school starting on the 15th february we will provide the cricket gear although you are welcome to bring your own for more information or to register your name please call campbell or susan on ph 825 2944 do you want your child to be a bookworm come along to our reading for success sessions learn about how children read and how you can help at home so your child can become a successful reader this is a 3 week course 7 ­ 8pm on three consecutive tuesdays 28th february 6th march and 13th march please return the slip to the post-box in the office if you are interested in participating thanks linda clarke and jenny mcrobbie reminders drum lessons will start thursday 16th february open to all ages if you would like more information about drum lessons please pick up a notice from the office guitar lessons with mr harrop will be starting soon watch this space for the start date i will be participating in reading for success name ph ohaupo terms 2012 1 2 3 4 start date tuesday 7 feb monday 23 april monday 16 july monday 15 oct finish date thursday 5 april friday 29 june friday 28 sept tuesday 20 dec sunsafe policy in accordance with our sunsafe policy all students must wear a hat for outside play during terms 1 and 4 please ensure your child has a named hat which can be left at school every student must also have a named water bottle please remind your child about the importance of keeping well hydrated during the hot weather as we have many students who are not drinking enough water.

slingshot `better schools programme we are now part of this wonderful programme whereby slingshot customers can choose to have a percentage of their monthly bill donated to the school each month slingshot will send us a cheque to use as we see fit how big that cheque is depends on you if you d like this easy and pain free way to contribute please go to www.slingshot.co.nz/schools or call 0800 89 2000 and speak to one of their friendly customer helpers kids zone after school club in the ohaupo school hall from 3pm to 5:45pm monday to friday register now for 2012 if you would like to register your child/ren for the after school club please collect a form from the office or speak to robyn phone robyn 027 625 8032 mad cow drums drum tuition mad cow drums are pleased to make the following offering to students of ohaupo school who want to learn to play drums in 2012 lessons will be on thursday afternoon from 3.00 ­ 5.00pm these lessons will be open to any age and will run in two sessions one for beginners and one for advanced players the timing for these lessons will be confirmed once we have an idea of numbers the cost per student is $11.00 gst/week the lesson dates will run in conjunction with the school term please feel free contact glenn on 07 871-4447 or 021 2020269 to confirm a spot and get more details please note there is no requirement for a drum kit to begin these lessons payment of school accounts the ohaupo school asb account number for direct payments of school accounts is 12 3134 0056759 00 please ensure you note the name of the student any enquiries to mrs roberts in the office note kids zone after school club payments are not paid to this account please pay direct to kids zone nzcu banking don t forget it s school banking tomorrow if you would like to open an account for your child please send a note to the office.
