kia ora koutou i hope you had a lovely long weekend i know lots of families went camping some tell me their style is more glamping with fridges tv s and the whole works it s good to see everyone back in great spirits bbq picnic it was fantastic to see such a great turnout of families i enjoyed talking with you all and it was lovely to hear how well all your children have settled in and how happy they are as our school grows bigger it is great to see our new families being embraced by our school community i hope you all got to meet someone new as well as your children s teachers next thursday we will be hosting the community learning meeting where we will share an overview of the learning at golden sands school see the calendar of events learning snapshot conferences over the next few weeks our teachers will be collecting learning information about your children this will be reported to you at a conference in early march the purpose of these conferences is to give you a quick snapshot of the levels that we have for your child and information about how they have settled in to class this year this is also an opportunity for you to share any information about your child that you would like the teachers to know more detailed information will come out closer to the time go4it this sports skills programme starts for all children next week if you have paid your shows and events fees there is no further cost if you have not please ensure that the go4it part is paid so that your child can be involved sports on wednesday of last week you should have received a copy of the summer sports schedule we have had lots of children return their sports fees and permission slips if you have not done so and you wish your child to be involved please send in your form and money before thursday sunsmart please remember to send your child to school with their school hat each day all children must be wearing their school hat to play outside in terms one and four it is also important that you provide your child with the appropriate sunscreen should you wish them to apply it at school are you an 80 s kid do you love fluoro we need some help to man the crossing in the mornings and afternoons if there are any parents that would like to don a fluoro vest and keep me or miriam company we would love to hear from you please email the office on lisa@goldensands.school.nz lunch time arts groups this year we would like to offer opportunities for children to be part of different arts groups the children will be surveyed this week to see what their interests might be regarding some lunch time groups once we have found which of these things the children are interested in we will offer some each term these will be voluntary for those children that elect to take part so far we are offering opportunities in recorder choir scrapbooking kapa haka language arts creative writing and drama visual arts drawing glee club singing and dancing not all of these will take place in term 1 they will be offered at different times throughout the year if there is enough interest.
