switched on sports your local sports publication issue 7 monday may 23 2011 welcome to hoppers beaten again rennie travelled to dookie and lost by 6 points rennie s inability to use the breeze well for the fourth time this season in the first quarter saw them only have a 5 point lead at the first break it was the inability of the rennie onballers and half forwards to man up which allowed the locals to run through the middle of the ground unchallenged and create easy ball into its forward line whereas the hoppers were under pressure and not able or prepared to move the ball quickly enough when the hoppers had it in their hands the second term saw more of the same and the hoppers deserved to be nearly three goals down at the long break the coaching staff changes of james to the middle woods back to half back craig rhodes to half forward all worked well early in the third term but a lack of arrogance persistence ability to put together multiple goals and a reduced level of effort let dookie kick goals into the breeze the hoppers lifted their intensity level again late in the quarter but a series of points saw them still down by 10 points with a term to go the last term saw the hoppers lift again but dookie were not going to give up either and although the hoppers hit the front late in the term poor discipline in manning up hit the hoppers hard and saw dookie get over the line strawhorn kicked five for the hoppers in another game where they it slip from their grasp award winners o connors farm equipment josh woods corowa fertilizers leon wolfe woods buslines luke a fairly even first quarter when tungamah led by three goals the bears took control in the second with an eight goals to one burst courtesy of a direct approach to goal and a superb display at full forward by damian payne despite the deficit at half time katamatite to their credit continued to pressure the ball carrier but this was not enough to stop the bears from going on to win 23.22-160 to 6.11-47 tim schaefer was the best for the bears with a superb game his three goals only highlighted the value of this young player to the bears damian payne booted nine goals in a strong display at full forward with daine runnals joining in the goals with five evan scantleton was the rock many tiger forward moves perished alex ross starred in the ruck and around the ground while the old master adam dodd knocked up getting kicks nick doyle played his customary classy game using his possessions to full effect reserves the reserves won a close tussle with the old foe 8.8-56 to 5.3-33 in a game marred by the serious knee injury to jason thomson the bears had a good first half and seemed to have the game well in control at half time but after that they seemed to falter in the fitness area and katamatite were able to come back shane thomson was the star throughout the game with daniel ellis having a huge effect across the centre justin o brien is having a real resurgence of form this season and played another blinder todd vogelzang marked well and gave the team someone to kick to while damien oliver and jarrod o shea rounded out the best with excellent games thirds the thirds were always going to struggle against class opposition but they battled on well and had a brilliant third quarter booting four goals before going down 24.9-153 to 6.6-42 will ford who has been in top form played another top game while beau cooper proved to be elusive and booted three majors jarrad ash is another having a stellar season while daniel williams continues to show outstanding form cody midolo and connor mcguire were also strong contributors all day fourths the fourths had another strong win kicking 15.20-110 to nil most impressive was jacob sampson with a dazzling display around the ground and his five majors were important jim irvine improves every week and there is a lot of promise in this lad zac connell was a real live wire with connor mcguire having a wonderful season nick kellock and tom connell were two players who had a big influence on a game where there were many stars next week the bears travel to dookie to take on dookie united in what promises to be a fantastic game of early start and traveled to the mcnamara reserve myrtleford to take on one of the teams in the top five after trailing all match the team hit the lead in the final quarter but to no avail as myrtleford scored a late goal to take the game and the points the players and club wore black armbands in respect to the passing of peg lawless during the week and began the match kicking into a slight breeze myrtleford took advantage of the breeze to kick away early and gain a three goal break the yarrawonga side played some sluggish football early and had to regroup quickly if they were to stay in the match bronson schofield continued his run of recent good form by keeping the side in the match with his contested footy run and second and third efforts his encouragement and leadership efforts against the other lavington team and managed to display that in the first quarter it started with damon hemphill s quick break from the centre to find ryan loy in front of goal following a great tap from big jim irvine damon was on the burst again this time finding zane carey just inside 50 zane not to be outdone took a run himself to set up dylan matheson who ben welsh converted easily another from goal sneak ryan loy to give him two and a great mark and goal from denver bruce had the boys really firing chandler robinson was dominant gathering possession all over the ground and giving his side great run when denver goaled again and ben welsh kicked his first the pigeons took a six goal lead in at quarter time the second saw more of the same with marcus leonard dylan matheson goaling early before lavington started to exert more pressure damon hemphill and jordan nelson both worked hard to send the ball forward but the forwards struggled to capitalise ryan bruce s attack on the ball showed the way for his teammates and allowed ben welsh to kick his second our boys by 9 goals at the main break the third saw lavington push even harder and the pigeons scoring dried up great defensive work from big jim irvine and matt casey meant that the opposition remained goalless again for the quarter nick stevens was working hard up forward but some great running from bailey scott and brilliant evasive work from clay poidevin allowed clay to kick the only goal for the quarter the last saw the boys running harder to overcome the panthers who had been matching the pigeons intensity jarrod mcburnies solid work was rewarded when he kicked a goal with a long bomb and dylan matheson added another shortly after using his height to out mark his opponents the boys squandered several more opportunities by missing shots at goal many of which were set up through great in and under work from sam olphert the boys eventually ran out winners 12.18.90 to 0.1.1 well done boys ryan loy under 14s after a torrid week of school football boys training for league selection 10 boys at training and an easy night on thursday we started our game well against bottom side panthers dylan scott started well and put our first goal on the board after 3 mins we looked a little scratchy but the goals kept coming thru voda gashy reid clarke and tully ayres 5-3 to 0-0 during the second qtr we started to look a little leg weary and to the panthers credit they were first to the ball and threw themselves into every contest marcus and ryan worked bo body toning rehabili tation tion come try
