what s in the newsletter this week uniform stationery parkland hub school organisation stp conferences road safety keyboard classes pta lunch helpers required uniform policy guidelines dear parents it is great to be back at work all our teachers are raring to go and have been very busy over the last couple of weeks getting programmes and plans in place ready for lift off this week based on the enthusiasm around the school yesterday there are lots of children who are glad to be back also i am sure there are just a few parents who aren t complaining about that either welcome back to all our `parkland families a special welcome to those families who are new to parkland school use `the hub as a first point of reference to find out answers to your queries most rooms will have already sent home a class newsletter yesterday providing you with lots of useful information copies can also be found on the hub it is my pleasure to welcome our only new staff member mr mike sidnam will join the junior team and teach in room 12 with year 2 students mr sidnam has worked in the school previously as a student teacher i know he will be well looked after and made to feel welcome as a full time teacher we also welcome back mrs amanda hildred who will release mrs mudgway deputy principal two days each week make sure you meet your child s teacher in the first couple of weeks the more information we can share together the better off your child will be enjoy the year best wishes peter barnett principal

uniform as all year groups are now required to wear uniform teachers will be checking students in their class this week if you receive a friendly note about the uniform please do not be offended we are simply making sure at this early stage in the year that everyone is on board and has the correct uniform items we need your support to make sure your child s uniform is appropriate the sun hat must be a `parkland sun hat with the school logo these can be purchased from the office for $15 shoes sandals need to be black it is crucial that you name every item of clothing and footwear a copy of the uniform policy is included with this newsletter to help clarify any queries you may have nb if you can t find a few of your child s uniform items it might pay to check in last year s classroom over the holidays we found mountains of un-named uniform items and footwear left for safe keeping we still have at least 20 pairs of black shoes/sandals in lost property that have not been claimed stationery all classes have been given their start-up stationery packs these included glue stick crayons black pen and whiteboard marker middle and junior teams children will have brought home the notice regarding payment of levy donation stationery the notice outlines the two payment options these are option 1 payment of levy/donation by end of feb free stationery pack option 2 payment of stationery only by end of february please return the tear-off portion of the notice and return to the office by tuesday to tell us which option you have chosen levy donation $100 for first or only child $80 each for 2nd and subsequent children.

www.parkland.school.nz children and parents are encouraged to use the hub on a regular basis it is the first place to go to find out information about your child s class and their work content of `class newsletters can be found on your class page teachers are busy this week archiving last year s material and setting up class pages for 2012 we are always open to any suggestions as to how we can develop our class pages or the hub in general and welcome any suggestions what information do you need that is not present?

s.t.p conferences these are very important opportunities for students teachers and parents to get together early in the school year to share information and establish learning goals together stp conferences will be held on thursday march 1st week 5 we will again be using the internet booking system details will be provided to all families shortly road safety please talk with your children about some of the basic road safety expectations around the school pedestrians need to use the footpaths parkland cres should only be crossed by using the controlled pedestrian crossing we encourage parents to be the role models here children should walk up the footpath around the side of the carpark depending on which ever end of parkland cres they are coming from please avoid crossing over the entrance to the school those who ride scooters bikes must walk these from the street up the footpath and place in the stands provided outside room 4 please do not park in the `drop zone please observe the orange cones if they are across the entrance the carpark is closed in-school keyboard classes these commence again on monday 13 february half hour classes are held in the group teaching room with up to 3 children at a time for children aged 6 and over contact terrie smith 356 7075 pta lunch helpers required we require more parents to add to our list for help with sausage sizzle every second friday people are needed to take orders before school and to cook from 12 noon to 1.00pm you will be rostered only once per term but can do more if you wish if you are a new parent this is a good opportunity to get involved and to meet other parents you can leave your contact details at the office with barb or kath.

uniform policy guidelines taken from the policy document the regulation `parkland school uniform is compulsory for all students this includes year 6 students from 2012 parents are free to select any combination of uniform items from the approved list to suit the weather conditions at the time there is no official summer and winter uniform shorts these must be plain black `cargo style and can be purchased from any provider cargo means longer legs and pockets on the side rugby shorts are not permitted as part of the uniform longs these must be plain black `cargo style and can be purchased from any provider or longs can be regulation trackpants or regulation pongee pants footwear must be plain black flat soled shoes sneakers slip-ons with enclosed heels boots sandals no high heels are permitted no footwear that is white or coloured in any way gumboots are permitted in wet weather slippers are permitted in class but are not to be worn outside socks are to be plain black girls are able to wear black tights not footless non regulation clothing students are not permitted to wear non-regulation clothing items along with their compulsory uniform students are permitted to wear plain black long sleeve thermals polo neck skivvies are not permitted underneath school shirts sweatshirts are not permitted purchase from the regulation components of the uniform are available from postie plus at the plaza palmerston north community notices saturday music pn we offer music lessons to children aged between 4 and 12/13 end of year 8 in the following instruments cello clarinet cornet drums flute guitar junior flute fife keyboard music basics recorder saxophone trombone trumpet and violin come along to our enrolment day saturday 18 february 2012 9.30 am ­ 11.30 am palmerston north intermediate normal school contact us for a prospectus or visit our website www.saturdaymusic.org.nz or contact@saturdaymusic.org.nz 027 8256927.
