03 strategos part 1 of 2 ­ all day training vaughan baker strategos president aimed at those in education settings any law enforcement especially school-based law enforcement 8/4/11 http training.dps.mo.gov/sematraining.nsf/trainingschedule apply online by going to the training schedule page and selecting the course you wish to apply for once you ve selected the workshop on august 4 2011 at nixa the next page has a link at the bottom of the page to register -this 1-day course is designed to bridge the gap between responding officers and school faculty administrators and other school personnel in an active shooter situation the course is designed to assist school personnel in their ability to prevent report and protect themselves and their students from an active shooter during the critical moments while waiting for a police presence to arrive and what to expect from the officers once they are on scene it is also designed to provide law enforcement officers with the necessary skill sets and mindset to properly respond to these extremely difficult situations -this course will be broken into two modules one will be a classroom portion covering the following areas overview and historical examination of active shooters an examination of lessons learned behavioral pre-cursors threat assessments school lockdowns what to do when a lockdown fails and rapid deployment response by law enforcement personnel -the second portion will be a four hour practical hands on training block for law enforcement consisting of drills and exercises during this block school personnel are encouraged to participate in order to practice the school lockdown protocols in conjunction with the law enforcement response 04 effective mini-lesson and management tips for writer s workshop stephany vesely aimed at 2-6 this session will cover a wide range of ideas and resources used to make writer s workshop more effective it is intended to give you some useful but simple ideas to walk away with examples of anchor charts management techniques and a variety of resource materials will be shared including mini-lesson and conferencing ideas 05 it s time to overcome your technophobia tracy harris aimed at all grade levels do you have any of these symptoms of technophobia 1 do you think technology is too expensive and too hard to use 2 are you afraid of breaking your computer and other technology equipment 3 do you think that technology is too difficult to learn 4 are you wondering why you should change your traditional teaching methods if you answered yes to any of these questions this workshop is for you come and learn some tips and tricks to get out of rut and become techno savvy 06 establishing number sense cheryl dick aimed at k-6 strong number sense is the foundation for higher-level math application learn part-whole place value and mental math strategies you can immediately use in your morning math time to help students make sense of numbers 07 the ziggurat model terri carrington project access aimed at special education the ziggurat model is a comprehensive framework for designing successful programs for individuals affected by autism 08 ocr/504 for administrators and counselors rita coburn exec director of special services this is mainly for counselors and administrators to get a better understanding of the changes regarding 504 plans and qualifying students as well as understanding the legal aspects for school districts nixa public schools fall professional development days august 3-4 2011 page 3
