time is running out for you to preorder a yearbook for your child please submit your yearbook order by february 10 2012 in order to ensure you get the book that will capture the wonderful memories your child is creating this year at parsley the preorder cost is $15.00 but it will be priceless for years to come please note that there will only be a limited number of yearbooks for sale at a cost of $20 at the end of the year when the yearbook comes in yearbook news from the desk of mrs.youmans national geographic bee at parsley parsley science fair congratulations to the following students for winning at parsley s science fair shaun gizdic jc gizdic which firewood heats the best nathan hardison patrick iammatteo measuring moisture in wood with electricity andres frick do plants grow taller in fertilizer taylor mcmillion wetlands at work sara meehan tooth tactics connor radford are there cheaters in baseball grayson rosa which type of liquid dissolves a pill the fastest leah schwagerl candy chromatography keeping it clean drive parsley s student council is having a keeping it clean drive during the next few months we are collecting travel size shampoos soaps deodrants toothpaste lotions etc please donate any collected items from your travels student council members will place these items in individual bags to be given to homeless members of our community collection boxes will be located in the lobby of parsley on january 6th fourth and fifth graders at parsley were excited and a bit nervous as they were anticipating the national geographic bee students had studied for the bee since november by looking at maps and globes reading atlases and other books about geography and exploring geography sites on the internet including many fun interactive sites with games all of mrs youmans aig students in fourth and fifth grades participated as well as any other fourth and fifth graders at parsley who wanted to take part we had 45 students participate this year the bee began with fourth graders competing to try to earn spots in the final round next our fifth graders competed after the two preliminary competitions the field had been narrowed to ten students who would compete in the final competition the ten students who qualified for the final competition were fourth graders brandon brodwater logan bolduc jakob triemstra luke ward jimmy glendenning and sophia sload and fifth graders tyler hamilton andres frick brighton tietjen and anna taylor students answered difficult questions about us geography as well as world geography the students were real troopers as they conquered sitting quietly listening carefully to many questions and thoughtfully answering the questions the final competition concluded with two students moving on to the championship round these two students were fourth grader brandon brodwater and fifth grader tyler hamilton both students competed with great sportsmanship and determination in the end tyler was able to answer the following question which state that borders texas saw a population increase of less than five percent she emerged as parsley s bee winner when she answered louisiana tyler will now take the national geographic bee test to see if she will qualify to compete in the nc state bee notes from nurse fran did you know that february is national children s dental health month elementary school is the time that permanent teeth replace primary teeth this new set of teeth needs to last a life time so good dental hygiene is crucial the american dental association recommends the following for good oral hygiene pta web sites north carolina pta www.ncpta.org national pta for student parent topics www.pta.org sign up for the nhcs e-news update www.nhcs.net new hanover county council of ptas http teacherweb.com/nc newhanovercountyschools/newhanovercountycouncilofptas richard meehan kem gonzalez toni kirby chuck mapson sandi gessner garnett willard james yingling meehan28409@ec.rr.com akgonzalez@ec.rr.com tkirby1@ec.rr.com jadonsmom@chuckmapson.net sandig@ec.rr.com garnettw@ec.rr.com sfyingling@hotmail.com brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste replace your toothbrush every three or four months or sooner brush your teeth with a soft-bristled tooth brush clean between your teeth once a day with floss to remove the sticky film on teeth called plaque and food particles from between the teeth eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks and sugary drinks visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams if the bristles are frayed or if you have been sick president vp fundraising vp special events treasurer recording secretary corresponding secretary pta council representative
