page 2 the beal news reel in case you were wondering there is no school on president s day feb 20th the vacation that had been scheduled for that week was cancelled due to the snow storm and week of school cancellation in oct the beal school book club will meet after school on tuesday feb 7th and 21st even if you haven t joined us before you are welcome to join at any time we are reading the book chocolate fever and have a fun treat for the meeting on the 7th please let me know if you will attend on the 7th so i can be sure to have plenty of treats last week each student brought home the log in information for the lead 21 website this is the new reading system for the district the children are using these lessons at school and now as a family you can log on to see the lessons and help you child work on the prompts that the teacher has assigned the link is located on the beal school website check out the new springfield parent academy course catalogue for the spring there are times set aside for parent chats at pic and several classes for parents of young children to help get ready for kindergarten i also saw walking tours about springfield s role in the underground railroad i know i can t wait to attend that with my children you can access the catalogue from the parent page of the sps website or just go to www.springfieldparentacademy.com pto news pto meeting is on feb 6th at 6:30pm free child care is available beal school will be 75 years old in the fall the pto would like to host a nice event to celebrate if you have any suggestions please come to the meeting to share or contact any of the board members or deb newell contact info is on the beal school web site can you build a snowman out of something other than so many ways to give now that the holidays are over many of us put the generous giving spirit away with the holiday trimmings however those who need help continue to suffer from need giving does not always mean money you can teach your children some life lessons on giving that will make life long habits imagine a world where we all can share with others so that no one has to go without giving can be as simple as donating clothing and toys that you no longer wear or play with to a charity now is a good time to look at all of the new things that we and our children received as gifts and the things we already had and to donate the things that we will no longer use another way to give is donating your time money is great but man power is needed to get the money and donated items to the people who need them volunteering at a soup kitchen can make it easier for you to be able to appreciate and be thankful for what you have the red cross says that at this time of year donations of blood are low but the need is still high so maybe you could consider donating blood the the salvation army savers big brothers and sisters and the boys and girls club family center all take donations contact info for boys and girls club 100 acorn st 739-4743 sarah tsitso stsitso@bgcafamliycenter.org hour taken out of your life could add years to someone else s call the red cross at 785-0901 for information on donating research shows that people who volunteer and/or give to others in some way live longer healthier and happier lives won t you consider it?
