the wright brothers were well known for building the very first successful air craft or as they said back then heavier than air craft even though the wright brothers were not super smart scientists they were able to conquer flight the brothers built a wind tunnel and measured the correct designs so the plane could fly.

the wright brothers first owned a printing press and then they owned a successful bicycle business that served them well their background with designing and building machinery and bicycles helped them with their interest in

building the glider as young children wilbur and orville looked to their mother for mechanical expertise and their father for intellectual challenge.

ryan how did you gentleman become interested in flying wilbur in 1878 when orville and i were ages 7 and 11 our father brought us various souvenirs and trinkets he found during his travels for the church one such trinket a toy helicopter sparked our interest in flying the toy was made out of cork bamboo and paper with a rubber band to twirl its twin blades we worked for years to build one that worke d but the

bigger we made them the less well they flew soon we got mad and we turned to kites ryan so what made you regain your interest in flying orville in 1896 german aviator otto lilienthal down died in a glider crash but his work showed that manned flight was possible french

aviation researcher octave chanute collected data and brought together young aviators to experiment with gliders on the sand dunes at the lake michigan shore that made us interested in flying again and we set about to learn everything we could about flying gathering and reading whatever we could and later designing experiments of our own.
