dear friends as the preacher and i discussed the order of service our conversation turned to the sad condition of these united states america had just lost its aaa rating along with much more the comment was made that far too many church folk seemingly ignore the seriousness of the hour as well as the great opportunity the lord has placed before his people the genesis record says a river went out of eden the first is pison that is it which compasseth the whole land of havilah where there is gold and the gold of that land is good gen 2:10-12 the translators to the reader in their preface of the authorized version wrote as appeared in 1611 many other things we might giue thee warning of gentle reader if wee had not exceeded the measure of a preface alreadie it remaineth that we commend thee to god and to the spirit of his grace which is able to build further then we can aske or thinke hee remoueth the scales from our eyes the vaile from our hearts opening our wits that wee may vnderstand his word enlarging our hearts yea correcting our affections that we may loue it aboue gold and siluer yea that we may loue it to the end ye are brought vnto fountains of liuing water which yee digged not doe not cast earth into them with the philistines neither preferre broken pits before them with the wicked iewes others haue laboured and you may enter into their labours o receiue not so great things in vaine o despise not so great saluation be not like swine to treade vnder foote so precious things neither yet like dogs to teare and abuse holy things many other things we might give thee warning of gentle reader if we had not exceeded the measure of a preface already it remaineth that we commend thee to god and to the spirit of his grace which is able to build further than we can ask or think he removeth the scales from our eyes the veil from our hearts opening our wits that we may understand his word enlarging our hearts yea correcting our affections that we may love it above gold and silver yea that we may love it to the end ye are brought unto fountains of living water which ye digged not do not cast earth into them with the philistines neither prefer broken pits before them with the wicked jews others have for more resources visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org ·3

a generation of opportunity attitude acce ss avraisdesre the apostle paul records in 1 corinthians 16:9 for a great door and effectual is opened unto me and there are many adversaries here we see paul s 1 attitude 2 access 3 adversaries surely we believe every deed done every effort made every word spoken and every sacrifice given in jesus name according to his will is without the mare of failure our generation has certainly faced some very difficult and challenging issues the voice in the wilderness repeatedly has addressed these perilous times according to the scriptures however with great obstacles and opposition also come great opportunities did you know one person can make a difference did you know we should all try to make an eternal difference economically politically and religiously paul faced great challenges in his ministry yet we see his attitude was one from an eternal perspective the very words a great door describe the attitude of anticipation for the prospects of fruit despite all the negatives of his day the apostle recognizes his access to god s power when he uses the word effectual his attitude is one of great opportunity and his recognition of access to god s power and promises upon the mission propels him ever forward then there is still the reality that many adversaries stand in opposition to paul s efforts in ministry today we must not adopt a survivalist s posture a great door remains open to the church this is the proportion of god s opportunity for his people in 2011 this great door and effectual is opened by the very power of god to his church you ve heard it said many times where god guides he provides the lord would not have commissioned and commanded his church to go into all the world if his power effectual was not promised this great door and effectual is opened must be viewed as a privilege presented to the church today the proportion the for more resources visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org ·5

power and the privilege combine to reveal our lord s mission for his church these are our marching orders despite economics politics religion and any opposition the forces of hell can muster if we will adopt the apostle s attitude seize the divinely given access and recognize the devices of the adversaries victory is secure yet are we too secure in the things we have and the person we are rather than total commitment to god s word and who he is has our noble goals and ambition trumped biblical conviction and spiritual sacrifice if we have not learned to pay the smaller prices of following christ on a day-by-day commitment we are not ready nor available for the high call and the life above the apostle paul again gave us great exhortation in romans 12:1 2 let me give you a little acrostic based on paul s beseeching using the word gap the great opportunity before us demands that we stand in the g-a-p g the good will of god a the acceptable will of god p the perfect will of god listen to how paul describes this admonition to stand in the g-a-p i beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of god that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice holy acceptable unto god which is your reasonable service and be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of god here we have the admonition to stand in the gap the good and acceptable and perfect will of god who is god what is life all about we must go to the bible to answer these questions some books may conform some books may reform there is only one book that can transform that is the bible god s holy word from the pages of his inspired pure and preserved scripture we learn who god is and what life is all about there is not a right to life for life is a gift from god there is not even a right to die but an appointment to die for the born again child of god it becomes clear as we study the scripture that we are not our own the transforming power of god upon our lives demonstrates who he is and what 6·the voice in the wilderness august 2011 virtual edition

we are about moses was raised in a palace to be used in a desert joseph was raised in a desert to be used in a palace regardless the palace or desert god is on the throne and when we are transformed by his great and effectual power the door is opened to stand in the gap proving that good and acceptable and perfect will of god we must view this open door through his eyes the world s view and values are dictated by the flesh and temporal money the material academia jobs careers politics and the arts all shape worldviews however we are not of the world nor do we see life from a worldview sadly too many churches effect little change on the world about but the world effects great change on the church separation standards and song are shaped by carnal fashion fads and trends we are not to be conformed to this world but transformed by the power of god when that transformation occurs the great door and effectual is opened to impact the world around us the apostle paul accessed this door of opportunity and need as god opened unto him it s not a matter of creating opportunities or starting something in the name of jesus but rather being sensitive to what god opens to us then we can use our strengths and talents to stand in the gap we do not have to answer every question that comes along the fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer take the opportunity to turn the tables question their questions answer the fool in his folly by asking the fool a question by questioning the question for example why would the world concern itself with the why of anything why would a loving god allow a tornado the cancer or the tragedy if the world doesn t believe in god why would the world question whether a loving god would permit anything to question whether god is involved in an event is to acknowledge the very existence of god so if you acknowledge the existence of god then your question must be retracted to allow god to be god dear church our mission is not to answer every question but our mission is to give a reason for the hope the apostle paul saw a great door and effectual opened with god s provision to accomplish his good and acceptable and perfect will what a privilege we have today to go forth in the name of the king of kings and lord of lords bringing light to a world that sits in great darkness for more resources visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org ·7
