introduction oroua downs school has agreed to observe and be bound by the code of practice for the pastoral care of international student published by the minister of education copies of the code are available on request from the school or from the new zealand ministry of education website at http www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international oroua downs school accepts international students under these conditions · students must apply and be accepted to be granted a place at the school this grant of a place is at the discretion of the principal and the board of trustees and is limited by the number of vacancies at the time · we give priority to those students who are in new zealand for a full school year as these students have the least access to education in their own country · we accept children between the ages of 5 and 13 there is no provision made for children before their fifth birthday or after the year in which they turn 13 · the student must live with a parent · student must hold a student visa to study long-term at the school · the enrolment of the student is subject to the code of practice for the pastoral care of international students full details of visa requirements advice on rights to employment in new zealand while studying and reporting requirements are available through the new zealand immigration service and can be viewed on their website at http www.immigration.govt.nz all students are placed in a regular classroom with those that need assistance given teacher-aide time information about schooling at oroua downs school once a place has been granted for the student a starting date will be given on that day the student and caregiver should come to the school office between 8.30 and 8.40 students need to be in something comfortable as we currently have no compulsory school uniform stationery packs will be issued to all students at no cost students will be assigned to a classroom and introduced with their parents to the class teacher it is expected that once enrolled in the school that students will attend each day the school is open unless they are ill the school hours are from 8.40 to 2:45pm monday to friday page 2

oroua downs school is a state full-primary school teaching the new zealand curriculum the curricula taught are · english · mathematics · inquiry science social studies · the arts music dance and drama · technology year 7 8 · health · physical education copies of the requirements for these curricula are available on the ministry of education website www.minedu.govt.nz the school reports to parents on the student s progress and achievement throughout the year term 1 meeting with the teacher student and caregiver to plan an individual programme of education for the student international students have the opportunity to meet both the classroom and teacher-aide teachers if required term 2 a written report on the progress being made and where the student is in relation to the national standards term 3 meeting with the teacher student and caregiver to review learning social goals and where needed set new ones for the student international students have the opportunity to meet both the classroom and teacher-aide teachers if required term 4 a full report on the student s progress and achievement against standards for their year level the portfolio student portfolios go home at mid-year and at the end of the year page 3

oroua downs school international student fees cost of tuition nz$6,564 per annum this includes moe fee esol support initial stationery pack school donation note insurance is the responsibility of the student s family fee for term by term tuition is nz$1,641 per term this includes moe fee and esol support initial stationery pack and school donation note insurance is the responsibility of the student s family refund conditions for international students all applications for a refund must be in writing to the principal if the student has enrolled but has not yet started the course · the tuition fees may then be refunded in full less a $500.00 administration charge · withdrawing or transferring to another school without notification may incur an additional penalty if the student has started the course and is still in the half of the course the tuition fee may be refunded less the following charges · an administration fee of $500.00 · the cost of the course up to the time of withdrawal if the student has started the course and is in the second half of that course the tuition fees may only be refunded if there are special reasons for the student leaving such as becoming seriously ill or serious illness in the student s family or some other special reason if a refund is to be claimed the parent/s must · write a letter explaining the special reasons · have a letter from the student s family or agent explaining the reasons or · supply a medical certificate the principal will make the decision about giving a refund in these circumstances there are no refunds if a student has been asked to leave the school because of bad behaviour poor attendance or because the student has broken the school s rules i agree with these refund conditions signed parent s full name date student s full name date page 7
