accidents and emergencies when we suspect illness or there is an emergency parents are contacted at once usually by telephone in case of emergency it is absolutely vital that we have a contact number hospitals are reluctant to treat children without a parent present please keep addresses and telephone numbers up to date during the first year at school parents are often invited to attend a child health interview with the school nurse children may be examined by the school doctor we have a school nurse mrs barbara wilson who comes into school regularly she may be contacted at the school clinic on 01253 651980 she also operates a drop-in surgery most tuesday mornings between 8.30 and 10.30 no appointment is needed check at the reception for details illness/medicines unfortunately there is no completely quiet place for children to be if they are ill at school so we will contact parents and ask them to collect their child if he/she is unwell medicines in school can be a source of potential danger and generally staff cannot take responsibility for administering them usual dosage is three times a day and can be given before and after school and at bedtime if necessary parents can come into school to give medicine but the best place for children who are ill is at home we have published a table of reference of the more common communicable diseases in the appendix at the end of this prospectus asthma policy if your child is asthmatic please let us know and we will explain our school policy to you you will be required to complete an asthma form which is held in school please ensure your child knows when and how to use the inhaler inhalers need to be labelled with your child s name and class 8
