parsley science fair parsley is having our annual science fair on january 10th we need a few volunteers to help set up and check in projects that morning from 7:15-8:30 if you are interested in helping with this event please contact pam cannon at pamela.cannon@nhcs.net or 910-790-2355 ext 405 notes from nurse fran welcome back to school and to the start of 2012 january is typically time for setting new year resolutions here are some ideas for healthy resolutions for elementary age kids have you child stop in and let me know what their healthy resolution is and if i can help them with it in any way i will drink milk and water three times each day and limit soda and fruit drinks to once each day i will apply sunscreen before i go outdoors on bright sunny days i will try to stay in the shade whenever possible and wear a hat and sunglasses especially when i m playing sports i will try to find a sport like basketball or soccer or an activity like playing tag jumping rope dancing or riding my bike that i like and do it at least three times a week i will always wear a helmet when bicycling i will wear my seat belt every time i get in a car i ll sit in the back seat and use a booster seat until i am tall enough to use a lap/shoulder seat belt i ll be nice to other kids i ll be friendly to kids who need friends like someone who is shy or is new to my school i will get a good night sleep each night and make sure to start each school day with a healthy breakfast so that i can stay healthy and be ready to learn from the desk of mrs youmans aig match team the purpose of the aig match team is to determine if a student needs the differentiated services provided through the aig program an aig match team is established at each school site and includes the gifted education specialist teachers and administrators the aig match team gathers information and data regarding students who are nominated the aig match team makes decisions based on the following criteria student aptitude student achievement student performance observation of student behavior and student interest and motivation the aig match team at parsley meets at the beginning of each nine weeks to review any students who have been nominated students can be nominated at any time during the school year however once a student is nominated there are several factors which influence when the aig match team will meet on the student data and information must be gathered parents teachers and the student must complete aig forms regarding observations of the student and information about the student classroom observations of the student may need to be made former schools may need to be contacted and all pertinent test scores must be recorded this process is not rushed as the aig match team needs the opportunity to collect all applicable data before meeting on a student therefore if a student were nominated for example at the end of the first nine weeks the aig match team may not be able to meet on that child at the 2nd nine weeks meeting because there would not be sufficient time for the gathering of data/work samples/observations the aig match team would most likely meet on that student at the beginning of the 3rd nine weeks upcoming morning marvels for 4th and 5th grade battle of the books participants friday january 27 2012 thursday february 16 2012 wednesday february 29 2012 all sessions are 7:30-7:53 am in room 407 unless otherwise notified out of sight web sites please contact marie warren at marie@ec.rr.com or 350-0627 or 619-9003 for more information north carolina pta www.ncpta.org national pta for student parent topics www.pta.org sign up for the nhcs e-news update www.nhcs.net new hanover county council of ptas http teacherweb.com nc/newhanovercountyschools/newhanovercountycouncilofptas president vp fundraising vp special events treasurer recording secretary corresponding secretary pta council representative richard meehan kem gonzalez toni kirby chuck mapson sandi gessner garnett willard james yingling meehan28409@ec.rr.com akgonzalez@ec.rr.com tkirby1@ec.rr.com jadonsmom@chuckmapson.net sandig@ec.rr.com garnettw@ec.rr.com sfyingling@hotmail.com yearbook group activity photos will be taken in january strawbridge studios will be coming into our school for one day only therefore we will be unable to schedule makeup days please make every effort to have your student at school the appropriate date be on the lookout for dates if you have any questions please contact rhonda adams at adamsclan4@hotmail.com yearbook news
