editorial happy new year to each and everyone in clubland let s hope it s a good one and that we re all still here this time next year following on from last month i m pleased to announce that john harris did indeed get reelcted to the c.i.u nation executive which is good news for leicestershire derbyshire and nottinghamshire continue with the good work john looking back over some of the good and bad moments of the past year early in the year ray freakley former president of the ent secs council decided to retire through ill health a very good friend to me and many more and ray we still love you no bad feelings from our last meeting i hope you ll always be a very dear friend back in february i mentioned a few ent secs doing well for their clubs and i must say it s great to see ent secs and clubs putting on various tribute shows boxing shows etc and pushing the boat out by paying the prices to try and get more members in their clubs i know i keep on about support but it s needed so so much for us to survive we lost scraptoft valley back in august spinney hill in september and very nearly the latimer more recently but i m glad to sat `the latty is now almost debt free after eventually selling off their concert room and part of the car park and bar takings are on a steady climb which is what we need to survive we lost some valuable members and committee people last year john foster bernard challifour terry thompson margurite rawnsley and the greatest eric delaney it was good to see trev `swan lisa and fred ward writing in again may it continue and hopefully others may follow suit a couple of talent contests at braunstone vic and wigston r.b.l with both reporting good bar sales and most of all members enjoying a good night out while losing two clubs we gained the thurmaston conservative club who we welcome to our association john and i haven t always seen eye to eye but that s in the past and it s good for the future that people should and can move on whoever you are life s too short towards the end of the year the best of leicester awards night was held at eyres monsell club the winners were named last month the all-winners show is to be held at west end w.m.c on thursday march 15th and a full report and pictures will be in a later issue finally the rollercoaster show did their last booking at wigston r.b.l more on this next month steve becky jemma and myself will be performing on the all-winners show and hopefully a special farewell show later in the year watch this space ent secs at the meeting at braunstone vic included pool notts west end monsell latimer melton r.b.l braunstone vic lutterworth and sileby i know it doesn t seem 5 minutes since getting your january material in but i need february s before january 5th so please please get it to me as soon as possible to d l rollason 25 amyson road leicester le5 2eb telephone 0116 2410011or email either clubnews@hotmail.co.uk or daverollasonuk@gmail.com dave rollason editor ps apologies to fred ward for having to leave out his writeup this month we ran out of space it will be in next months issue if you ve been let down or if you re an act not working telephone mr jamie robinson on let down service 07968 769439

hope you have all recovered after christmas and the new year the highlight of the month for me was when i went to see a fantastic freddie mercury tribute show at newfoundpool wmc called pure magic aka local singer mark lovell fantastic night including a couple of firemen and a full evacuation of the club very exciting mark gave a fabulous night of entertainment and got the audience up singing and dancing looking at what was on over the festive period in the local clubs i was disappointed solo singers mainly there are a lot of bands and duos out there even discos i can remember not that long ago when certain clubs had a band and a disco on for christmas and new years eve i know price comes into it but get someone decent on and you will get the customers in not just the same artistes you have on during the year don t forget next month february 11th at west end wmc the dreamers will be appearing entry is only £2 on the night well worth it for a fabulous night of 60 s music including many of their hits and more see you all there lisa congratulations congratulations to mr john harris on being re-elected to the c i u national executive to represent leicestershire nottinghamshire and derbyshire
