the voice of spirit of hope umc 7600 harold avenue golden valley mn 55427 www.spiritofhopeumc.org may-june 2011 edition he is risen he is risen indeed hallelujah easter continues easter day was glorious at spirit of hope there were over 400 people gathered to worship the living christ the shouts of christ is risen he has risen indeed were exhilarating i imagine your day included getting together with family and friends for easter baskets and dinner our family enjoyed a walk outside now that the easter eggs have all been found and the ham is all gone the temptation is to think that easter is all over in the church we know that that is not true after jesus was resurrected he spent 40 days with the disciples appearing to them in both jerusalem and in galilee this time together changed the disciple s lives they no longer seemed to fear the power of secular authorities and committed the rest of their lives to preaching the gospel during this important time with the disciples jesus was constantly telling them to be at peace and to love one another it is really a very simple message but it is so important to life when we can be at peace anxiety will disappear when we can love one another life will be enriched jesus wants to continue to be a presence in our lives through his living presence we can be transformed in much the same way the disciples were we can become easter people our ultimate goal will be heaven our priorities will be transformed loving one another will be the most powerful force in our life that is a transformation that will last longer than chocolate bunnies or left over ham god bless you and remember christ is risen -1 7th annual all-church flea market thursday may 19 5-8 p.m friday may 20 9 a.m 5 p.m saturday may 21 9 a.m 1 p.m spirit of hope will be opening its doors once more to the community with a flea market umw jewelry and bake sale kid s korner adult clothing and much more we had such enthusiasm and support from all of our members last year we decided to share the fun again items may be put in the area marked flea market in the lower lobby on the left side as you enter the church we are accepting clothing for all ages housewares furniture collectibles games stuffed animals and large activity toys please do not bring televisions microwaves or computer software there are many volunteer opportunities sign up now in the lobby proceeds from this year s flea market will benefit spirit of hope s general operating fund please note this is a combined may-june issue of the voice the next issue will also be a combined issue watch for the july-august voice in late june please contact the church office to share your summer address to continue receiving church news.
