ogu a part of our lives ergen tursynbaev organising the regular ogu exhibition and conference is always stressful but very interesting we have a big team galina pak and sanzhar berdiev chief specialists in the unified technical policy department of the main directorate elena kim press secretary umid israilov head of foreign economic relations and investment nosir igamberdiev head of business affairs khamidulla safaev chairman of the trade union committee margarita fuzulova head of the editorial board of the uzbekistani magazine oil and gas khamid umarov head of the base department of nti jsc uzlitineftgaz rano khusandzhanova deputy chairperson of the uzbekistan scientific-engineering society of the oil and gas industry and leyla ponomareva chief specialist of the main financial and economic directorate the main generator of ideas is shavkat mazhitov chairman of the ogu organising committee who by his personal example inspires us all within ogu there will be a number of business meetings with the management of nhc uzbekneftegaz which will go on for the whole day and require a lot of effective work it is difficult to overestimate the importance of this event for our country as a whole and for individual businesses in particular it always presents the latest equipment and technologies which can be learnt about without leaving uzbekistan after all there is not always the opportunity to go abroad and most importantly there are meetings between business partners which lead to cooperation i recall that even after the first few exhibitions an uzbek-malaysian joint venture was set up of course organising the event requires a lot of effort and you have to efficiently address numerous organisational issues and other problems but you see the result and that is pleasing every year the number of exhibitors and visitors grows and this means the interest in the event in our country s oil and gas sector and in uzbekistan is increasing so our work has not been without purpose another memory is when i won a raffle at one of the exhibitions the prize was a trip for two to london at first i couldn t believe that i had had such luck but then when people began to congratulate me i realised it was true it was especially pleasing that my colleagues and friends were delighted with my win and viewed it as a reward for hard work rano khusandzhanova deputy chairperson of the uzbekistan scientific-engineering society of the oil and gas industry the national holding company uzbekneftegaz makes a significant contribution to the organisation of the ogu international exhibition and conference representatives of its various divisions are usually involved in every stage of the important and difficult organisational work among those involved this year are ergen tursynbaev head of the unified technical policy department of the main directorate of nhc uzbekneftegaz and rano khusandzhanova deputy chairperson of the uzbekistan scientific-engineering society of the oil and gas industry who have participated in the organisation of ogu since it was established in tashkent here they share their impressions of this important event rano khusandzhanova i think i am not mistaken when i say on my own behalf and on behalf of my colleagues that the preparations for the annual ogu international exhibition and conference and participation in it are always a top priority and every event is remarkable for something for example since 2007 the number of exhibiting companies has increased every year even the global financial crisis was not a hindrance such interest is very pleasing and we for our part do everything to organise it effectively and work with enthusiasm we think over every step every detail down to the gifts we give to participants for many preparing for ogu is not just a work responsibility or social burden but a part of life where everything is closely intertwined at the exhibition business partners who have known each other for many years become friends now during the fifteenth anniversary of the event i remember an interesting episode where we managed to organise a trip on the opening day of the event for the children of uzbekneftegaz employees who of course knew about the event from their parents but wanted to see it with their own eyes the children s interest was genuine they asked the representatives of the exhibiting companies various questions about the problems of exploration and drilling and using the latest equipment and technology and they in turn enthusiastically answered all the children s questions perhaps meeting the exhibitors inspired the children in their choice of profession in any case several of them followed in the footsteps of their parents and now work in the country s oil and gas sector 5

the challenges of the times expert views countries mr iperti suggests we perceive the world as a network in which we share common challenges resources knowledge and a common environment to overcome these shared challenges people have to learn together share ideas and create innovative products together among the possible areas for closer cooperation the president of the italianuzbek chamber of commerce identified engineering companies that offer services for the establishment of industrial plants manufacture of equipment and development of small and medium-sized businesses the shale alternative the prospects for increasing uzbekistan s hydrocarbon resource base with a view to implementing investment projects were among the other important topics of the first day of the conference gaybullo abdullaev director of the institute of geology and oil and gas field prospecting noted that the total area of prospective oil and gas bearing fields in uzbekistan had reached 208,900m2 the expert from uzbekistan stressed that the development of the country s hydrocarbon potential would enhance fuel and energy independence provide for the work of oil and gas companies in the future however the overall tone of the discussion on the measures to increase traditional gas production and its transportation routes was somewhat changed by the paper of john roberts an expert on energy security at platts he outlined the challenges russia and the caspian region countries may face in the near future in the form of competition from shale gas which is increasingly being presented as a cheap alternative to the traditional blue fuel only time will show whether this is in fact the case in the meantime the conference participants are discussing technologies for the production and processing of hydrocarbons including oil shale balanced energy supplies are the basis of global security at present and will be in the future the challenges of creating a long-term energy resource base for different countries are the focus of the 15th ogu conference hydrocarbon resource base and diversification of exports but also environmental protection and the development of alternative energy sources security together establishing a reliable and comprehensive system of energy security is one of the strategic objectives of most leading world economies with the lack of stability in the hydrocarbon markets of concern to both energy providers and consumers uzbekistan s oil and gas industry is pursuing a course of product diversification this strategy is multifaceted and includes not only the expansion of the country s today the oil and gas sector analysts of the world s leading countries increasingly agree that energy security and the globalisation of the energy sector should be inseparable concepts this idea in particular could be traced in the paper of the president of the italian-uzbek chamber of commerce mr luigi iperti who spoke about closer cooperation in the gas industry between the two 7
