art you piedmont arts new slet ter jan jun 12 more than 200 guests attended the 50th gala it was great to see old and new friends of piedmont arts as we marked five decades of bringing visual and performing arts to the area news · oct 6 2011 piedmont arts receives artstars award from the dir ector the past six months have been exciting for piedmont arts the organization celebrated its 50th anniversary on september 30 with more than 200 guests attending its 50th gala it was great to see old and new friends of piedmont arts as we marked five decades of bringing visual and performing arts to martinsville henry county and the surrounding area many thanks to all who helped make the gala a huge success including our 50th gala committee co-chaired by kay smith and jimmy warren and committee members susan critz marty gardner and betty lou pigg also we are so grateful to all those who helped with decorating and mailing and the many other tasks that went into this event please refer to our donation page to see those who also provided a gala sponsorship as we embark on our next 50 years piedmont arts is launching a strategic planning process led by our 1st vice president david stone of solid stone fabrics as part of this process we want to hear from you an online survey is currently available please go to our website and click on the survey link to take this quick survey we would greatly appreciate your feedback i hope you will take advantage of all that piedmont arts will be offering over the next few months including aquila theatre s performance of oscar wilde s the importance of being earnest in february and poco and pure prairie league in may also in our galleries in the coming months check out works by dianne smith and norman rockwell s tom sawyer and huckleberry finn kathy rogers the shining star award is bestowed upon an arts organization in each region that has an extraordinary impact on the community successfully develops community partnerships as well as business legislative and local community support contributes to k-12 education and that has stood the test of time artstars judges called piedmont arts a model of the arts in creating a cohesive community accepting the dominion artstars shining star award are l r piedmont arts representatives carolyn beale studio 107 coordinator bernadette moore director of marketing and public relations kathy rogers executive director barbara parker director of programs and joyce staples board president piedmont arts was awarded a 2011 dominion artstars shining star award from virginians for the arts at a special ceremony at hollins university s eleanor d wilson museum in october artstars awards recognize two arts organizations in each of five regions of the commonwealth that best demonstrate the ability to enhance communities lift spirits and build a better quality of life the awards are made possible through a $30,000 contribution from the dominion foundation the philanthropic arm of dominion resources we are honored to join with virginians for the arts in recognizing the commonwealth s best we value and appreciate the efforts of each organization to enrich our lives and strengthen our communities ­ virginia m board president of the dominion foundation
