from the president dear friends of calvert hall alvert hall is richly blessed with a variety of customs and rituals that touch every facet of the institution some are recent inclusions to the calendar while others date back to the school s foundation on saratoga street on thanksgiving morning i had the privilege of joining with thousands of alumni students parents faculty and staff and other high school football fans at m&t stadium for our annual turkey bowl game against perennial rival loyola blakefield calvert hall fans have been gathering for this event for the past 91 years it is difficult to find activities that have been around as long the camaraderie and spirit generated by this single occasion would be hard if not impossible to replace recently the executive committee of the maryland interscholastic athletic association miaa voted for changes that will impact the future of this historic game while changes appeared to be inevitable we have been intent on preserving the integrity of the turkey bowl after participating in the appeals process the miaa board of governors amended the playoff system for the a conference that will commence in the fall of 2011 a point system was devised and calvert hall and loyola blakefield will not meet during the regular season playoffs will be scheduled for the second week of november if loyola and calvert hall both emerge as winners of their semi-final games then the championship game will be played on thanksgiving day during the traditional turkey bowl even though we had hoped that more time would have been allowed for the member schools to explore potential options what has been offered at least provides for the most desired outcome i am grateful to everyone who expressed interest and support on this important issue and i look forward to seeing you at next year s thanksgiving day game i hope you will be able to join me and members of the alumni association at the bull and oyster roast on saturday february 12 from 6 pm to 11 pm this is a wonderful opportunity to reminisce with classmates friends and former faculty the event helps support many of the philanthropic activities of the alumni association all of which enormously benefit calvert hall as the academic year has unfolded we continue to celebrate our 50 years on our towson campus three particular activities are scheduled for the next few months alumni weekend is planned for march 25 through march 27 among the activities scheduled is a tented reception in conjunction with varsity baseball and lacrosse games fittingly the weekend will end with mass and breakfast the parent association will hold a fashion show on sunday april 3 our culminating event with be the 50th year gala at the school on saturday may 14 please make a particular effort to join us for these activities most especially the gala on may 14 each of these special occasions will allow us to collectively celebrate the significance of the last half century as we look forward to a very bright future may god bless you and your family throughout this new year please keep calvert hall in your prayers and know that you are always in ours sincerely c brother thomas zoppo fsc president
