principal s welcome as the first marking period comes to an end our students are all settling in beautifully to the school year so many of our students come to school everyday and put their best efforts into their work we are all very proud of them parent/teacher conferences are almost complete thank you parents for taking the time to come to school and talk with your childs teachers about their social and academic progress the support you give your child with their education is vital in their success on november 21 bridgeport hosted a fifth grade community day in which all of the fifth graders from bolivar road elementary school visited the fifth graders at bridgeport for a morning filled with getting to know each other and talking about the special gifts each of them have that will help them to be successful at the middle school the ptas in both buildings supported this visit our fall fundraiser is complete i would like to thank tracy weaver for chairing this event and all of the volunteers who helped tracy make this fundraiser a success i would also like to thank marianne falkenburg and the parents who helped her with class pictures this year your time is greatly appreciated as we move into december and the weather begins to get colder our students still continue to go outside at recess please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for winter outdoor activities during parent conferences our 1-5 grade teachers spoke with parents about the importance of each student memorizing their math facts please take a few minutes each day to go over math facts with your child a packet was given to each of you with different ways you may support your child in learning their facts i hope all of our students and their families enjoy the holiday season and have a peaceful 2012 don t forget to study your math facts counseling corner it is hard to believe we are approaching the end of 2011 students in kindergarten and second grade have been learning some great strategies to help with attention and focus through the second step curriculum this is a researched-based program that includes other topics such as empathy problem solving and managing emotions these lessons will continue through january grades 1 3 4 and 5 will also be participating in the second step curriculum later in the school year friendship groups and changing family groups are also in process for grades 1 3 and 5 additional groups for grades 2 4 and grief groups will begin after the first of the year if you would like your child to be involved in a group or you have a topic you would like me to address please do not hesitate to contact me also our fifth graders spent a fun-filled morning with the fifth grade students from the bolivar road elementary they participated in some team building activities and getting to know each other a little as they transition to the chittenango middle school on a final note the parenting program love logic will be starting shortly due to the response to this group i will be offering at least two sessions this year in order to keep the groups fairly small you will be notified soon happy holidays mrs peterson grades 1-3 addition subtraction grades 4-5 multiplication division the bridgeport holiday concert will be held on wednesday december 7th at 7pm at the bridgeport elementary school there will also be a school performance on december 7 at 2:15pm this concert features 4th 5th grade chorus orchestra and 5th band students performers will soon be receiving letters to go home with information regarding what time they need to arrive on the evening of december 7th all performers should be dressed in concert dress which consists of white tops and black bottoms as they will be performing on stage we want them to look their best orchestra and band students also need to remember their instruments when they come to school on december 7th our concert is sure to get you in the holiday spirit the annual canned food drive is once again being held at the bridgeport elementary school from wednesday november 30th thru wednesday december 14th canned foods and non-perishable food items will be collected and given to the sullivan food cupboard we hope as many children and families as possible will be able to donate food thank you for your generosity bridgeport student council members mrs peterson mrs haggerty annual canned food drive mrs farber principal
