issue no 10 friday 11 november 2011 hobsonville primary school newsletter dear parents and caregivers 104 hobsonville rd hobsonville waitakere 0618 ph no 416 8619 fax 416 6645 email office@hobsonville.school.nz www.hobsonville.school.nz we are already almost half way through the final term of 2011 what an exciting year so far rugby world cup and our own wearable arts show what an amazing event we are now preparing for a number of end of term events the school choir performance in the auckland town hall picnic evening year 8 graduation as well as our junior and middle school prizegivings citizen cups student achievement the following students won the citizen cup for their team last term the cups were awarded at the whole school assembly on 19 september congratulations to the students who were awarded the cups very well deserved pohutukawa team nikau team rimu team matai team kowhai team ella midgley rylan partlow hannah dudley joel parton natalie de coning room room room room room 25 12 16 8 10 y7/8 norwest touch rugby yesterday both the boys and girls teams did extremely well representing our school at the norwest touch tournament the boys won their pool section convincingly and came up against west harbour in the semi finals they narrowly lost by one try and should feel very proud of their performance the girls were unstoppable they topped their pool and then won their semi final and completed the final hurdle by beating waimauku 2-1 in overtime congratulations to both teams you did hobsonville very proud m r hill wearable art show congratulations to all the students who took part in the wearable art show and thank you to all the teachers helpers and sponsors who made this amazing show possible profit from the show was $4,291.21

issue no 10 friday 11 november 2011 competition success as part of maori language week our students took part in the te wananga o aotearoa colouring competition sponsored by academy book company ashley honig of room 3 won and for her efforts we were able to choose $1,000.00 of literacy materials for our school a wonderful range of books and resources arrived this week and will be well used and enjoyed by students and staff congratulations on your success ashley and thank you to academy book company for this very generous prize the books will be on display in the library shortly m rs hailstone basketball during the last week of the october holidays arianna barrett represented waitakere under 13 basketball for the nz national title in napier they are currently the winners of the national title for under 13 girls shania ahipene also represented waitakere in the under 15 basketball team in nelson they won all their games and are now the current winners of the nz national under 15 girls title 3 years in a row both girls have had a great season with representing nz breakers under 14 girls over in melbourne in july this year and were undefeated for the whole tournament shania is currently performing in the junior elite development programme and arianna is currently in the junior development programme well done girls synchronized swimming nationals amy lim competed at the 2011 synchronized swimming nationals held in hamilton in the school holidays she obtained a gold medal for her dolphin team event the dolphin team consists of girls who are in their first year of competition so this is a fantastic result amy also placed third in her figures competition which tests the basic skills of synchronized swimming congratulations amy y2/3 rippa tournament due to lack of interest from other schools in the y2/3 rippa tournament on 16 november it has been cancelled the organizer is looking at holding it next year m rs m eek weetbix kids tryathlon it is the 20th anniversary of this event 2012 if your child is interested an information sheet can be obtained from the office m rs m eek touch rugby touch rugby will be starting in term 1 2012 on wednesday 8 february and finishing on wednesday 28 march games are played at moire park from 4.00pm it is available for all students y1 y8 due to such a short timeframe to get everything organized before this start date registration forms will be available from the office on friday 25 november and due back no later than friday 9 december 2011 you have the option of paying the fees and bond now or paying them by the end of the first week of term 1 friday 3 february 2012 the total amount to pay will be $40.00 which includes registration fee 30.00 and uniform bond 10.00 which is refundable trials will not be held next year as the competition is not graded wearable art show photos and dvds the wearable arts show photos will be on display in the office foyer until monday 14 november if you wish to order any photos please complete an order form with payment by cash or cheque sorry we cannot accept eftpos for the photos but internet banking is available photos 5 x 7 $10.00 10 x 8 $20.00 there are still a few dvds left and once these have been sold we will take orders if necessary dvds are $10.00 payment by cash cheque or eftpos yummy stickers thanks to everyone who collected yummy stickers this year the school won $1,120.00 to spend on pe and sports gear please keep on collecting the stickers for next year s promotion.
