week 2 term 4 wednesday 2nd november 2011 www.isleworth.school.nz the values focus this term is kia ora koutou ma tini ma mano ka rapa te whai by many by thousands the work will be accomplished many hands make light work unity is strength welcome back to the start of a very busy and short term we have a lot to squeeze into the 7½ weeks left we have a number of things coming up ­ athletic sports on the 9 november student led conferences on the 15 16 november life education 21 22 november school picnic on 7 december and the final assemblies/prizegiving on 13 14 december phew i am tired already please mark these dates on your calendars now student achievement each year i collate the schoolwide achievement results and present this data to staff and the board this year i expected our results may not be as good as previous years because of the disruption caused by the earthquakes and snow i am thrilled to report that our children have maintained the great results overall which we have had in the last few years and have even in written language improved on last years results my thanks to the teachers for their hard work in difficult circumstances and we should all be very proud of the children for the way in which they have stayed focussed and engaged in their learning thanks to the pta the pta recently gave us a very generous donation which was the result of their chocolate sales and the mathsathon we have put most of this towards increasing the number of netbook computers in the school and buying some ipod touches for classroom use no not for listening to music the uses for these are extensive ­ we hope to have a parent information meeting next year to show you all what is possible with the ict tools we now have and how it engages children in powerful learning staff news congratulations to mr and mrs scarlett on the birth of sophie jane on the 26 october mr green has the opportunity to teach in brunei next year and has been granted a years leave by the board of trustees in order to take up this opportunity it is a marvellous opportunity for the green family and also an opportunity for us as a school to make global connections with children in other parts of the world through the ict tools and ultra fast broadband we now have at isleworth mr green will be here until the end of the year and mrs beynon will fill that vacancy mr king will fill mrs scarlett s position next year and raywyn will again be almost fulltime in the classroom with a little bit of time out each day to teach reading recovery at this stage the actual class levels that each teacher will have is not decided so please don t assume that mr king and mrs beynon will necessarily be taking over the class level which the person they are filling in teaches at the moment as a range of factors need to be taken into consideration you will be informed of your childs room and teacher by the end of the year welcome to our student teachers this term miss mason r7 mr middlemiss r 13 mr rosvall r 10 miss mcpherson r9 mr bailey r 6 and miss greenwood r 8 honesty what s happening 2011 4 nov 9 nov 11 nov 15-16 nov 18 nov 21/22 nov 26 nov 7 dec 12 dec 13/14 dec 15 dec disco school athletics book offer 7 closes student led conferences photo money back life education pta car boot sale school picnic helpers morning tea prize giving term 4 ends 2012 30 jan term 1 catch the latest news on our news blog .l oohcs ht r o w el si taem it l uf rednowaevahuoyepoh y e ll a m o n al hcaldna dl anodcmlleub dl anodcminor n a m tli tiak n a mtl i t i ki m yll enacm al y k s sravag el y k ,t rams aj r o j r ol yatrednax krapxela nihsa ni g n o s ei n n a e m o cl ewew the pta would like to thank placemakers cranford street for providing the school with a lovely new bbq to help with our fundraising and to four seasons at tower junction for supplying new bbq utensils please support these businesses who have helped us out survey ­ please take time to give us some feedback by logging into http www.surveymonkey.com/s/3st6k8k at the last count only 32 people had responded ­ we really want to know what our whole school community thinks paper copies are available at the office we will also have copies available at the student lead conferences and each room will have computers set up for you to complete your survey on line while you are here if that is more convenient principal www.isleworthschoolnews.blogspot.com

the stars of the week who were awarded classroom certificates at assembly this term were r3 r7 r8 r11 r12 r13 jesse-james wihongi and abbey docherty debbie beg gina chen and harry chen emma-jay tauwhare annie son and zoe nesterovitch jakobi tauwhare xander taylor and kyle gavars cory tainui james docherty and kai tiltman the principal s award was given to jakob grant for using the isleworth school value of caring joshua wilson and jared macleod for taking charge of the outdoor chess set ryan connelly for being a responsible runner for the rotary speech judges reminder for school resource fee and donation term 4 resource fee is now due a number of term 1,2 and 3 resource fees are still outstanding could these be paid to the office as soon as possible resource fee is compulsory 70.00 per child per year or $17.50 per child per term this pays for all the pens pencils etc and any trips children go on as well as entertainers who come to school the donation is $40.00 per family for the year while this is a donation payment would be appreciated as this funds all the little extras that the ministry of education doesn t provide in our operational grant reminder accounts will be sent out in the next few weeks follow us on facebook www.facebook.com/pages/isleworth-school follow us on twitter text isleworthschool to 8987

in room 6 we have been learning to write descriptions we have worked on using similes and metaphors to make our writing more interesting here are a few of our descriptions my bedroom my bedroom is haunted by a devil who is my brother the bed is like a cloud my wardrobe is a forest of clothes and my draws are as brown as the tree trunk my toy box is as heavy as a boulder my wallpaper is as blue as the sky the curtains are as curvy as the waves in the sea by tysharne harema bradley bradley has blue eyes like the colour of the sky on a bright sunshiny day his blond hair is as yellow as the sun and as long as a giraffe s neck he has big clean teeth that are as white as snow bradley likes to wear scary dark skeleton necklaces he also likes to wear big scary dark skeleton t-shirts that are only a bit dark and bright he quite likes to wear big fiery belts with a medium sized buckle bradley often wears black jeans and slip on shoes that are as black as midnight he has a lot of shoes that are coloured green and black and none of his shoes do up with velcro or shoelaces bradley also likes big shinny sports shoes by bradley green tj tj has a dark sweaty t-shirt and he also carries in his two huge hands two massive weights whenever he enters a weight-lifting competition he has a puffed expression on his face tj also has dark blue eyes that are so dark that they almost look like they are black his muscles are massive because he does weight lifting every day he wears large black shorts that show off his big leg muscles his shiny black shoes reflect in the sun whenever he is sweaty after a workout his bald head shines in the sun his teeth make a grinding noise when he lifts weight he is so strong that he can bend metal with his pinkies by caleb macpherson
