2 The Property Scene: 01253 392 064 April 4th 2019 Say you’ve seen it in The Property Scene WYRE COUNCIL SECURES FUNDING FOR OUR COASTAL TOWNS INDEX Wyre residents and visitors are set to benefit from a number of successful funding bids announced over the weekend. A grant of £772,085 has been secured from the Coastal Community Fund, which will go towards a £1.22m project called ‘Joining Up the Wyre Coastline Economy’. The vision is to link the coastal economies of Cleveleys and Fleetwood by strengthening ties between key visitor attractions using digital signage and an interactive app. The project includes the refurbishment and modernisation of Fleetwood Market to create new units and pop up stalls and space for start-up businesses. The Coastal Community Fund will be split across five key projects: • Development of the outdoor market space at Fleetwood Market. Introducing new stalls, a new seating / entertainments area, cultural calendar, new signage and resurfacing of the ground • Redevelopment of 220 sq metres of currently vacant first floor flats above Fleetwood Market to develop creative/shared studio space for new start-ups • Internal improvements to the market, including the creation of two accessible studio spaces for people with disabilities • The development of an interactive trail that would encourage visitors to our attractions via an app that can be downloaded to a mobile device. This would promote our attractions and also encourage outdoor activities and healthy living • The installation of new digital signage from Cleveleys to Fleetwood providing information on local events / interactive trail. Wyre Council has also secured just under £50,000 as part of the Coastal Revival Fund. This will develop outline feasibility studies to look at the streetscape of Victoria Street (the main street between the Fleetwood Museum and Fleetwood Market). It will also assess the current entrances to Fleetwood Market and Fleetwood Museum and will produce an energy saving feasibility study. With these appropriate studies in place work will take place to transform an area which is currently underutilised to create an historic quarter. This will complement the larger Coastal Communities Fund grant. Garry Payne, Chief Executive at Wyre Council comments: “We are very pleased to have received this funding and the wide variety of projects we have put forward demonstrate the potential of our coastal town of Fleetwood. With its rich heritage we can now use this funding to enhance the area for tourists and the local community.” Wyre will also benefit from improved opportunities for walking and cycling after South Lakeland District Council and Morecambe Bay Partnership were awarded £2.35 million, part of which will be used to extend the Bay Cycle Way from Glasson Dock to Fleetwood. TIME FOR A MONTH OF MRS HINCH INSPIRED CLEANING Whether you are a fan of Instagram or not you may have heard of the cleaning guru that is Sophie Hinchcliffe aka MRS HINCH. The 28 year old Instagram personality is a regular woman from Essex whom found cleaning a way to cope with stress and anxiety in her early 20’s. She began sharing her cleaning routine and tips with the world through her Instagram account and we are hooked. With great hacks, Mrs Hinch has managed to to give her followers a new lease on cleaning, whilst making it fun too. April sees the release of Mrs Hinch’s new book, ‘Hinch yourself Happy’, in celebration we shall be doing a month long cleaning series---both in print and on our Facebook page, so lets get hinching… (and don’t forget to follow our Facebook page for tips and updates) BEFORE YOU BEGIN 1) Clear Away the Clutter. Before you embark on a deep clean, you’ll need to do a light one. Pick-up any items that have accumulated on the floor, on top of counters and table tops, or draped across furniture, so that you can get to the places you need to. This is a great time to throw away or recycle stuff you no longer need . Try separating stuff into baskets as you go around, a rubbish basket, a ‘needs a home’ basket and a ‘just out of place basket’ that way when you are done, you can easily return items into place or know what stuff you need to create space for. 2) Make a Game Plan. Plot out which rooms you’ll tackle and when, keeping in mind how much time you think it will take to do a thorough job. Don’t be afraid to break the work up into multiple days or even weeks. Remember: Deep cleaning is a marathon, not a sprint! 3) Take Stock. Set yourself up for success by making sure you have everything you’ll need before you dig in. After getting started, the last thing you’ll want to do is mess up your rhythm by running out of something you need. Suggested supplies include: PRODUCTS: Soda Crystals, Disinfectant Spray (Zoflora or Dettol), Dish soap, Window and glass cleaner, Cream Cleaner (cif or The Pink Stuff), Bathroom cleaner, Wood cleaner and/or polish, White vinegar, Multi-purpose cleaner.(Elbow Grease) TOOLS: Broom, Dusting cloths (microfiber works best), Gloves to protect your hands, Mop, Hoover with extension accessories. 4) Get some music on and get going… COMMON AREAS Take Off All of the Cushions From Couches and Chairs, and Hoover the Spaces Underneath. Pay special attention to the nooks and crannies where crumbs or dust might have made a home. Shampoo Your Rugs and Carpets. Or, if you’d rather not spend the time, money, or effort to shampoo the whole house, spot clean stains using pet stain remover or a steam cleaner. Polish Your Wooden Furniture. Remove any items from bookcases or coffee tables to clean every surface with a dust rag, followed by wood cleaner or polish. Wipe Down. Baseboards, Window Treatments, Light Fixtures, and Ceiling Fans. Use a telescoping pole or the vacuum cleaner extension attachment to reach high ceilings and corners. Remove and wash curtains, and clean the windows with glass cleaner. Don’t forget to disinfect door handles! Dust Your Decor. Gently wipe or brush away dust from all of your knick knacks, picture frames, and clocks. Depending on how many decorative items you keep in your home, this may be the most time-consuming activity you do during your spring cleaning. Clean Your Electronics. Another germy place in your house? The TV remote. Just think of all the (sometimes sticky) hands that touch it. Give your electronics a good wipe down, including the top of your TV and DVD player. Dust the front of any screens with a microfiber cloth or a feather duster, making sure to get the corners. BEDROOMS Wash the Bedding, Including Bed Skirts, pillow cases, throws and Duvet Covers. If some of the items are too big to fit in your washingmachines, take them to a laundry mat or dry cleaners. Flip Your Mattress. Or if you have a pillow top, rotate it to prevent grooves from forming due to sleeping in the same spot for too long. Freshen the mattress by spreading on some baking soda, letting it sit for 45 minutes to an hour, and hoovering it back up. Dust Neglected Surfaces, Like Window Trims and blinds, Headboards, and Ceiling Fans. If you have curtains, wash them too. Hoover or Mop Under Furniture, Including Behind and under items. Pay extra attention to corners and baseboards. Wardrobes. Sort Through Items and Get Rid of Anything You No Longer Need or Use. If you’re really wanting to keep something, ask yourself: 1. Does it fit? 2. Is it flattering on me? 3. Have I used it in the past year? If you answer “no” to any of the above, strongly consider donating or throwing it away. Rotate Seasonal Items. If you’re doing spring cleaning in the spring, pack up those bulky sweaters and heavy coats and store them on a shelf or in the back of your closet until next winter. The same can be done in the autumn for summer clothing and accessories. Hoover Carpet and Ceilings. Remove any items from the floor, and vacuum up any dust that might have built up under your shoe rack or nostalgia box. Don’t forget to get into the corners of the ceiling to capture any cobwebs or dust bunnies. Wipe Down Shelves and Inside Drawers. Remove all items, and wipe down the space with a damp rag. As you replace the items, think about how they can be organized so that you’re more likely to keep the space tidy. Part 2...in next issue...
