what s in the newsletter this week staffing badges of excellence parkland hub religious education activity accounts stars of the week swimming 2012 fishy tale parkland pride puzzler pta update dear parents the short term is certainly having an impact on schools despite knowing it was going to be short there were still only a limited number of things we could do last term in advance staff are extremely busy at present preparing end of year reports which are due to me in week 6 so a very compressed timetable to do the same amount of work you may be interested classes for next year are being finalised please note these will remain confidential until we notify all parents at the end of this term i am pleased to announce that we have appointed mr mike sidnam to a fixed term teaching position for next year mike will be part of the junior team i can also tell you that mrs anna ousey has been appointed as acting junior team leader for the next three terms she even had a birthday yesterday we have one further fixed term vacancy to sort out before we are fully staffed for 2012 peter barnett principal

the combination of hands reaching upwards in our school logo is a clear link to the vision statement `rise to the challenge children at parkland school put their hands up they participate in a partnership of learning and they rise to the challenge achievement badges of excellence in a new initiative this year we will introduce the `parkland achievement badges of excellence the purpose of these badges is to acknowledge the significant achievements of some of our students the badges will also include the significant contributions our students make to our school the badges will be awarded to those students that have achieved the standard of excellence in any one of the four areas there will be four different badges available academic social sporting cultural achievement badges will be awarded once per term at an assembly there are likely to be only a handful presented each term this term they will be announced and presented at the year 6 graduation on december 8th the achievement badges will match next year s prefects and sports ambassadors badges students will be able to keep the badges once awarded.

parkland stars of the week chase danielle dayton congratulations to harry who really `rose to the challenge this week when he had to fill in as a player in the under 10 soccer team great effort harry well done swimming 2012 swimmagic swim school offer the swimmagic swim school at freyberg community pool are offering a 10 discount to parkland pupils if they enrol in term lessons or holiday lessons during 2012 you need to be a current parkland pupil and bring in this ad to qualify for the discount call in or phone veronica to make your booking this is a great way to support your child s school lessons phone the swimmagic team on 3567317 we will repeat this advert.

fishy tale congratulations to marcus teale who had a very successful day fishing at a secret location recently check out the monster he managed to reel in parkland pride puzzler question how many kilograms do you think this fish weighs answer name room prize draw if you return your `puzzler to the box in the foyer this week you could have your name drawn and take home a full size foose ball table second hand your parents would need to give you permission by signing this slip indicate it was ok to have this at home parent sign

parkland pta update did you know we only meet four times a year meetings usually last around 1 hour and are a great chance to meet other parents hear what is happening around the school and long term plans on monday we were treated to homemade pikelets and chocolate samples it s a hard job here is a summary of our meeting lunches there are many families who are unable to commit to regular pta meetings but support us with their time helping with lunches thank you so much friday lunches would not be able to continue without you we are always looking for more to spread the load if you or someone you know is able to help out on a friday with orders before school and/or cooking sausages at lunch time please see kath in the office you are usually rostered on once a term the more people we have the less often you will be required it is a great way to get to know other parents and your child will get such a buzz out of seeing you at school fundraising we have held a lot of discussion over the last few meetings about the fundraising initiatives we promote each year we are very mindful of the fact that families are busy and constantly asked for their time and money so we choose our projects carefully for this reason cadbury chocolates have continued to be our main annual project as they have the ability to generate a large proportion of our fundraising income this money goes directly back into benefiting your child s learning examples this year include helping with costs for camp swimming sports buying new ict equipment we appreciate your time and commitment to support us with our annual chocolate fundraiser in term 1 next year we have some exciting changes more details will follow closer to the time upcoming events disco thursday 24th november mark your calendar now this will be your last chance to get your dancing shoes on for the year instead of a cuppa in room 14 there will be a sausage sizzle and drinks so come down early and grab an easy dinner together with other families perfect if you are coming straight from hockey there will be some exciting new glo products on sale watch future newsletters for more details closer to the time second hand uniforms these are listed on the hub if you have uniform pieces you would like to on-sell or donate please contact kath at the office or via the hub for more details there will be details in the newsletter toward the end of the year about a possible uniform sales open afternoon in late january should their be the need incoming mail a current parent to parent newsletter is available at the office it has a national match listings of families of children with special needs seeking support and/or information from similar families our next meeting and brief agm is on the 27th february 2012 in the staffroom we will be preparing chocolate carry packs and would love to see you there many hands make light work have a great weekend suzanne smith chairperson
