history of rc olongapo centennial rotary club of olongapo centennial rcoc was conceived and organized during the term district governor vitt o guttierrez lend a hand and through the pioneering efforts of district secretary bert rendor and district governor s special representative dgsr pp donald g masson rotary club of olongapo actual conception took place during the 40th birthday of rotarian nester nes r dimaculangan on may 5 2004 rotarian nes laid out his vision thoughts for the formation of a new club to many rotarians present dg vitt issued a green light to rtn nes after presenting a list of 20 plus prospective charter members thus the organizational phase started with the ensuing assignment of dgsr pp don undertaking of the required city wide new club survey and the continuation of seeking quality prospective charter members the first meeting of prospective members was held on may 14 2004 meeting weekly with the good lord s guidance and valuable assistance of duly assigned personnel with the approval of the rotary club of olongapo on june 1 2004 the new club adopted the name rotary club of olongapo centennial on june 2 2004 rcoc passed a milestone when dg vitt signed papers designating the prospective club as a provisional club within rotary international district 3790 the final milestone was the announcement from rotary international that the provisional rotary club of olongapo centennial was accepted into it s membership with club number 65917 on june 30 2004 two things are certain to rcoc a passionate vision to rotary s motto service above self and sincere feelings to the needs of our less fortunate citizenry charter members and the charter president stated we believe in the cause of rotary international and are destined to give our all supporting those causes in anyway we can avail of our time and resources 5 reach within to embrace humanity

ri president my dear brothers and sisters in rotary in the pages of this month s magazine you will be introduced to the marvelous city of bangkok thailand which will play host to our 2012 rotary international convention please consider this my personal invitation to join me my family and our fellow rotarians at what promises to be an incredible event in one of the world s most fascinating locations thailand is a spectacular destination truly the land of a thousand smiles i would particularly urge rotarians who have never visited thailand before to consider this ri president as your chance you ll be surrounded by gracious kalyan banerjee rotarian hosts and friends old and new from around rotary year 2011-2012 the world bangkok is a fantastic gateway for those wishing to explore southeast asia and a wonderful experience on its own for those who hail from countries closer by take the opportunity to visit a major cultural capital with all it has to offer ­ including shopping dining and sightseeing indeed bangkok will give you a wonderful value for your time and money but the very best reason to visit bangkok of course will be the 2012 ri convention itself 6-9 may ­ the highlight of the rotary calendar all through the year we reach out to rotary communities around the globe at the convention we have the chance to see all those communities represented in one place ­ to hear all the languages see all the people and learn about all the projects of the past year nothing brings home the internationality of rotary like a rotary convention ­ and nothing else has the same power to inspire i firmly believe that every rotary event should be a family event and this is why binota and i plan to bring our children and our grandchildren why not do the same and make the rotary convention part of your family s vacation next year with so many wonderful events and activities to choose from there is something for everyone and plenty of opportunity to draw our families closer to our rotary service every year i go to the convention excited to see old friends and make new ones to celebrate our successes and learn from our experiences and every year i leave with a sense of pride in rotary eager to begin another year of service bangkok promises to be the best convention yet i urge you to register now at www.rotary.org/convention and to begin planning your trip to our 103rd international convention 6 reach within to embrace humanity kalyan banerjee president rotary international

governor s message dear fellow rotarians of district 3790 it has been a very busy first month at the helm indeed my calendar was swarmed by governor s visits and inductions which were all-new experiences for me i am elated with the wellthought of and well-prepared plans and objectives presented by the clubs all in line with the ri and district governor digna ragasa district goals i am with you in attaining these rotary year 2011-2012 goals i am overwhelmed by your warmest reception during my visits thank you for sharing your energy and enthusiasm i always bring home unique and happy stories i am also happy to see a lot of new rotarians being inducted to the different clubs august is membership and extension month i would like to remind everyone to share rotary to others let us invite new members and retain the entire membership as it is one of our responsibilities let us not alienate new members let us involve them and make them feel at home being their sponsors it is not enough that you have nominated them and the club has accepted and inducted them shepherd them through the different activities of rotary call them or go an extra mile to make them active let us make them embrace rotary with fervors starting from their first day with us be instruments to make others love rotary with an increased membership there will be more hands to work and serve the community more hearts to love and feel the plights of the less fortunate brothers and sisters more resources and support to lean on and more individuals to give inspirations and be inspirations i believe that the best way to share rotary is to live it 7 reach within to embrace humanity

president s message good evening fellow rcoc ians i want to thank those attending the aprrc fellowship last thursday in which we also used to make up for the weekly meeting that had to be cancel to the typhoon that put a some members in the dark and others trapped in their club president homes due to flooding once again i thank mark e thomas rotary year 2011-2012 those that pressed through last week with all of the problems that we were faced with i want to remind those that have not already paid their semester dues i ask you to submit your payment now as many are already aware the club is low on finances it is important for members to pay their dues for the club to pay for the prm subscription and for the club projects once again i remind you to bring your prospective members contact your friends co-workers clients customers and relatives all of which can be a potential rotarian some members have already been delisted due to non-payment and non -attendance for this reason it is important to bring in new members to the club so not to have a decrease in club membership 8 reach within to embrace humanity go grow and glow changemaker president mark e thomas

secretary s corner minutes from the 3rd board meeting september 22 2011 chums buckets bar and cocktail olongapo city club secretary pp imelda a ramos rotary year 2011-2012 9 reach within to embrace humanity i bank account the new signatories of the bank account of the club are pres mark thomas sec pp aimee ramos and treas salve villalobos any of the two 2 of the aforesaid officers will sign the withdrawal slips on behalf of the club it is further agreed that the bank account name will be changed from rotary club of olongapo centennial-family day to rotary club of olongapo centennial-district events ii bingo fund raising projects the schedule for bingo fund raising project will be on january 27 2012 iii tree planting project october 16 2011 is the date of the tree planting project of the club and pp abs tayco is in charge for seedlings from ecology however the club will provide motor vehicle for getting the said seedlings iv rotaract induction september 25 2011 is the induction of rotaract club of olongapo centennial at chums and buckets flo espiritu will be the guest speaker ipp celson is the charging officer and pres mark is the inducting officer v lotus foundation medical mission november 6 2011 is date of the lotus foundation medical mission in benguet baguio the lotus foundation is seeking financial assistance for the vehicle of the patients together with their parents or guardians vi mid year review hosting of mid-year review and candidates forum by the club will be on january 14 2012 and the prospective venue will be at white rock water park and beach hotel subic zambales the proposed theme is celebrate the past embracing the future and the attire is tropical vii other matters deadline for sar payment will be on september 30 2011 members should pay their dues on or before the said due date.

rotary information vocational service month 10 vocational service focuses on adhering to and promoting the highest ethical standards in all occupations recognizing the value of all useful occupations not just those that are pursued by rotarians contributing one s vocational talents to meeting the needs of the community during october rotary clubs are encouraged to focus on this important avenue of rotary service consider dedicating at least one meeting to discussing vocational service and plan a project or other activity to carry out through the year following are some suggested activities for clubs to consider devote the first meeting in october to examining vocational service including the fourway test and the declaration of rotarians in business and professions after expanding members awareness solicit their input in planning projects for the remainder of the year introduce a classification talk series in which each member gives a fiveminute talk on his or her vocation these presentations give members the chance to learn the inner workings of jobs other than their own including the various problems that arise and the solutions used to address them present a vocational award to someone in the community who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement and high ethical standards promote the presentation in the community and consider making it an annual event each october help young people prepare for their careers by sponsoring a character building project career day job shadowing day or mentorship program support professional development in the community by sponsoring a professional networking event or workshop or start a career counseling program to help unemployed or underemployed adults compete in the job market have club members volunteer their vocational skills on a community or international service project many volunteer opportunities can be found on projectlink an online database that allows rotary clubs to publicize projects in need of assistance for more ideas consult an introduction to vocational service 255-en or visit www.rotary.org if you have questions or success stories to share contact ri staff at rotary.service@rotary.org reach within to embrace humanity
