what s in the newsletter this week scarecrow term 3 mufti day fundraiser manawatu digi awards year 6 students parkland hub stars of the week school improvements pta donation mobile dental clinic pta meeting summer sports road safety dear parents there was never any doubt that the 2011 rwc would be won by the all blacks was there a great relief however that the cup is finally `ours for the next four years the all blacks were thoroughly deserving winners having not lost a game during this tournament their win did not come without the team facing a number of challenges along their journey however and it was fantastic that the players management and support staff were able to rise to those challenges and overcome them albeit only just at the very end there as we begin to re-focus on term 4 parents need to be aware that the term is only eight weeks long and that we will no doubt be very busy right through until december 16th which is the last day of term for all those that have computers i would urge you to visit the hub on a regular basis to make sure you keep up to date check the term calendar for important dates and check your child s class page for their activities and events if you do not have internet access you are welcome to either use the library computers just ask for help if needed after school or you may simply choose to refer to this fortnightly newsletter uniform reminders please remember that parkland sun hats are compulsory this term if you can not find your hat they are available from the office uniform footwear needs to be black and comply with the uniform policy peter barnett principal

the combination of hands reaching upwards in our school logo is a clear link to the vision statement `rise to the challenge children at parkland school put their hands up they participate in a partnership of learning and they rise to the challenge scarecrow girls well done to this group of gardeners who have enrolled a `friend to help protect their strawberries `scarecrow is in year 6 and will go to ross intermediate next year term 3 mufti day blackout theme our thanks to everyone who supported this day in week 9 last term a total of $323 was raised this money will be used to develop the `wilderness area manawatu digi awards these will be held at the regent theatre on monday october 31st parkland will be represented by two very capable students aimee harper and james harper we wish them well year 6 students there are a number of important dates involving year 6 students nov 1st ross intermediate teachers will visit parkland teachers to discuss each enrolment nov 23rd ross intermediate will be holding its orientation afternoon more details to follow graduation december 8th.

www.parkland.school.nz to find 1 school logo explanation from the `home page go down the menu on the left hand side to `our school go across and down the sub menu to `logo 2 term calendar from the `home page go down the menu on the left hand side to `what s happening go across and down the sub menu to `term calendar use of the school grounds out of hours we were very disappointed to find that several of our own parkland students plus a few others were found on the roof of the school and using the new blue sun shades as a `trampoline over the holidays these students have now lost the privilege of having access to the school grounds after school any damage to school property that is admitted or we have evidence from the cctv cameras will be referred to the police and the full cost of any damage will be sought children should be adequately supervised and not left to play in and around the school alone.

school improvements builders have been busy over the holidays replacing the roof on rooms 9 10 this will be such good news to those that have had to suffer the `aquarium like working conditions inside whenever it rains in recent years no more buckets and towels pta donation our thanks to the parkland pta who have kindly donated the new scooter stand this stand is valued at $1200 and will be a very useful asset to the school children can now lock their scooters in place if they wish you will need to provide a padlock no excuses for leaving scooters on the grass behind room 4 however mobile dental clinic the mobile dental clinic will be on site at parkland for a few weeks we welcome moira tristram and jan sharland any dental enquiries should be directed to 357 9868 or 0272 444 159

parkland pta term 4 meeting monday 7 november 7.30pm in staffroom all parents welcome we would love to see some parents who are new to the school bring your fund-raising ideas summer sports miss young has been extremely busy organising a huge number of summer sports teams we currently have five teams entered in the new summer football competition which is fantastic this is the 6-a side tournament that takes place each wednesday after school we also have five hockey teams one cricket and one touch team participating in the summer competition road safety parents parking in the cul-de-sac area of parkland cres are reminded that it is illegal to leave your car in the middle of this area children are reminded to walk around the footpath and not straight across the road community notices junior golf events palmerston north golf club saturdays from 2pm november 5 ­ december 10 open to any kids from 7 15 membership not required 9 holes ­ for kids with experience 7 hole short course for inexperienced/younger kids clubs available free ­ limited amount for more info or to sign up call sam warner golf pro on 3510702 or go to www.mwga.co.nz feilding craft market this is our 25th year for the feilding craft market in that time many stall holders have found a great place to make new friends and keep busy frid 11th -sat 12th -sun 13th november feilding civic centre 9am 4pm free entry
