Taking place from Saturday 5 to Sunday 13 May, this year’s theme is ‘moss, meadows and moorland’. Locals and visitors toWyre are invited to experience the best of springtime in the countryside around Garstang, the Forest of Bowland and the Fylde plain. The festival is an annual celebration of beautiful walks and this year there are over 40 walks taking place ranging in length from two to 16 miles. Once again the festival is being co-ordinated by the Friends of GarstangWalking Festival, supported byWyre Council and there’s a range of walks with something for every age and ability. If you’re up for a challenge, why not try the long distance three day series of walks known as “Knott to Tot”. On Saturday 5 to Monday 7 May you can take part in three long walks exploring Wyre from the seashore to the Bowland Fells. These are strenuous walks for the seasoned hiker. Just come for one day or challenge yourself to all three! If you prefer a slower pace don’t worry there’s plenty of other walks to enjoy including wildlife walks, historical walks, dog friendly walks, and even some activities that children can get involved in. There’s also the Dunsop Valley ramble which is suitable for use by tramper – an all terrain electric buggy that’s available to hire when you book you place. Participants are asked to wear walking boots, all weather clothing and to bring a packed lunch (if appropriate) and a drink with them, and will be given details of what they need when they book their place. Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Wyre Council comments,“The Garstang Walking Festival has been running for 14 years now and it’s a real highlight in Wyre’s events calendar.There’s no better way to take in the beautiful scenery than on a walk. As there are so many guided walks taking place, there is something for everyone to enjoy. BEAVERBROOKS BLACKPOOL 10K FUN RUN, NOW IN ITS 37TH YEAR The annual Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run, now in its 37th year is a must in all running diaries! The Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run will take place on Sunday 13th May 2018 at 11am.The Fun Run is suitable for both new and experienced runners, anyone from the age of 11 upwards can take part and there’s a wheelchair category too, it’s a 10k open to everyone! This year the Fun Run will be raising money for Trinity Hospice, however you can complete for another charity that is close to your heart. The 10 kilometre run takes place on Blackpool’s famous promenade. The race starts north of Gynn Square at The Savoy Hotel, Queens Promenade then goes down the traffic-free Golden mile, past Blackpool Pleasure Beach before turning round and heading back up to the finish line. The route is fully marshalled, includes two water stations and has first aid available for your safety. The run is in aid of the local Trinity Hospice on Low Moor Road, whom provide compassionate care on the journey towards the end of life. By 2020 they want everyone on the Fylde Coast to have access to good end of life care in the place they choose: the hospice, the hospital, a residential nursing home or their family home. As they receive only a fraction of our annual running costs from the Government they rely on voluntary donations to keep the doors open. Every penny of your sponsorship from the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run will go directly towards patient care. There’s no minimum fundraising requirement but they do ask each runner to try to raise £25. Once the colder months have come to an end, it’s a great time to take advantage of the warmer weather and clear out the dead leaves and detritus of autumn and winter, ready for the occasional downpours of a British summer. Condensation and mould are only a few of the potential harmful consequences that come hand in hand with neglected gutters.To help you avoid this, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide on how to keep your gutters clean and functional. When is it Time to Clean Gutters? Very few people would count cleaning guttering among their favourite activities.Yet, if done often enough, there is absolutely no need to dread it. Cleaning gutters more than once a year not only means that it is a lot easier and less time-intensive each time, but also ensures that you lower the risk of any damage to your house. Do yourself a favour, and don’t wait until the leaves are falling from the trees in October to clear out your gutters.
