Bolivar Road School “The Address for Success” May 2018 Principal’s Monthly Message Congratulations to Ms. Burgess! Although she is missed, we are all happy that she and her daughter are doing well. During her absence I am filling in and I couldn’t be more impressed by the students, staff, and families of Bolivar Road School. It truly is a dedicated, caring, and supportive learning community. During April, the third and fourth grade students demonstrated incredible perseverance while working on their NYS ELA Tests, as did the teachers in the District Volleyball Tournament! First grade students enjoyed a play during a visit from the Merry-Go-Round Players. Our very successful Family Fitness Night motivated students and their families to jump, dance, exercise, and enjoy healthy snacks. We have a lot coming up this month. On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and 2, our third and fourth grade students will be taking the NYS Math Tests. On May 7 our visiting author, Aaron Reynolds, will be here and some lucky students will win the opportunity to have lunch with him based on the bookmarks they made. First grade will be visiting Hospital Land, Kindergarten students will be going to Clark Reservation State Park Nature Center on May 10, and fourth grade students will go to Chittenango Landing. Also, on May 11 we will be participating in the Districtwide School Fair at the CHS beginning at 5:30. On May 14 we will begin Kindergarten Screening and our Ice Cream Specials will be the following Thursday, May 17. The next day, May 18, there will be a curriculum half day for students. Our Spring Concert will be at 6:30 on May 23, and fourth grade students will be taking the NYS Science Test May 29 and 30. The district has set May 25 as District-Wide Safety Day, a day for all buildings to focus on student safety. Thank You to everyone who has welcomed me and helped me do my best for our Bolivar students. ~ Jan Ahlsen Bolivar B.E.A.R.S. The character trait for May is: PERSERVERANCE The character trait for all year is: CITIZENSHIP (Please go to the Bolivar Webpage to find out more information.) They must be dated no more than twelve months prior to the start of the school year in which they are required or the date of entrance to the school for new entrants.
