anderson wraith of mars 4 i was discovered centuries after i had purposefully cast myself into an icy crevice in the artic region of the planet i was from my planet was the third then later became the fourth planet in my solar system it is a planet that has been worn down through eons of abuse and neglect the air quality was compromised by a lack of vision and stupidity breathing the thin air of radawn mars to them that found me was never a problem in fact i don t believe any of my species could tell the air was changing oxygen was being consumed at an alarming rate without any notice to the entire population of nearly four krill four billion to them air of any kind would be just fine for a short while anyway ammonia sulfuric acid vapor clouds of ether of any kind only bothered us after prolonged exposure we had already been to all the planets worth visiting in radawn s solar system made simple by not having to worry too much about the air we breathe and we were just about to begin exploring the nearby stars when we were suddenly forced to concentrate all our efforts on our new adversary for millennia we had fed on the blood of humanoids that lived among us at first they outnumbered us by about a krill to one but as a millennium of circumnavigations of our own star had transpired the ratio was in our favor we tried enslaving the rest of the humanoids but they developed a viral blood poison that wiped themselves out within days their mass suicide possibly was premature our scientists created-on the very day they ceased from existence plankton capable of producing a blood like substance that could sustain us at first the plankton was cultivated to live on the surface of our lakes and oceans we didn t bother finding out why the soup as we called it began consuming all bodies of water having a plentiful source of nourishment was a blissful time that seemed to last forever there were occasional feuds to gain power and influence but these gave way to an understanding that
